WE DID IT!!!
We did it Ya'll!!! We did it, we raised all the money!
The exact amount I am not sure of - there were a few people that did not state the amount they were sending off, so I have them marked at $20. If they sent less (which is FINE) then I'll just cover whatever is left when I look at the balance in a couple weeks. But other than just a few mystery donations, as far as I know we have covered 100%.
Today I sent off a card to Karen to let her know what you all did, and a check to the Utility Company to cover what was sent to me via Paypal.
If anyone wants to send more to help with the next month, of course you are welcome to. But the most important part is that we got her down to zero. She can have a fresh start.
I really can't thank you all enough. I am so proud of ALL MY FRIENDS that came through for this. We had donations from $5 to $135 to just a helpful link that brought more donations in. And I know there were more of you out there who just sent their good thoughts - and they worked! I never imagined on Friday when I typed up that entry that by Monday the bill would be paid.
You make me feel really good about myself and I am proud of what I did and I am proud that I have such wonderful friends. I had tears in my eyes all weekend long as the donations just kept pouring in.
We couldn't make things better, but we could make a huge difference. And we did.
And I just can't stop thanking you.
Pischina's Big Give was a SUCCESS!!!!

I send big sloppy kisses to you ALL
You guys. We are going to completely clear this bill for her. In 48 hours we raised $320 of the $454 bill, and I don't doubt for one second that we'll cover the entire thing.
I really want to thank you all, those of you who have donated already and those of you who still plan to donate. There was not a lot of joy for me in paying the bill over the year because I knew it was really a very very SMALL thing compared to what they were going through. I knew I was helping, but I wasn't going to make the problem go away, and that can leave you feeling very helpless.
But what we are doing now is giving her a fresh new start. And that makes me SO HAPPY that I have done this and that you all ACTUALLY HELPED ME DO IT!!!! For me, this was the best part of the entire good deed, getting you all to participate. I truly hope that you all feel just as good inside as I do.
Tomorrow I will send out a check to the Utility Company to cover what I've received through Paypal so far ($190!) and the rest of the donations were sent directly to the utility company by you. I am also going to send Karen a card letting her know what you all have done.
You have all done such a wonderful thing, I don't even know how to thank you. I get choked up with every notice I receive about the donations. I just want to say Thanks for being a part of this.

Pischina's Big Give
Okay Ya'll, here is the story of Steve Sremac and details of how you all can help me make a difference in this world.
And if anyone can help out by linking to the entry I would appreciate that too. Every little bit helps.
Edited to add: Some people have asked about a Paypall account. If it is easier for you, you can send money to my account at Pischina at Diaryland dot Com, and I will send the check myself. Whichever way is easiest for you. I would like to send a HUGE thank you to those who have already donated -
we have already raised $320!!!

CatieCake and Andy Dopplegangers
So Catie says she wasn't downtown today when I saw her and Andy by the Camera Cinemas. Which makes me worry because I made really careful sure that it was Catie and Andy before I typed up that entry, so if it wasn't her then we have some space pod people amongst us.
I'm just saying.
So right now I'm going to force myself to forget about movies for just a couple hours and sit down and type up a literary criticism of "Janus" by Ann Beattie using psychoanalysis and feminist criticism. I know ya'll wish you could write it for me, but I must do it myself.
At 10:15pm I'm heading over to the Repertory Theater to see D-Tour: A Tenacious Documentary. I'll see ya there.

CATHERINE
Catherine, I know I owe you an email - I'll get to it soon, promise. I definitely have stories to tell you! And was glad to hear your son is back home - REALLY glad.
And hopefully I'll have some stories to tell all of you soon, I've just been going through some crises at home and not ready to talk yet.
Thursday: Age of Elizabeth - YAY.

"What the Buck" ROCKS
I may be the last person in the world to discover this guy, but in case I'm not, you HAVE to see these videos.
It's the "What the Buck Show"!!! And it's had me laughing out loud all morning long (instead of typing ten pages of Shakespeare essay).
(There are a lot of videos, these three are my favorites at the moment)
On Britney at the VMAs:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wr_yiKg-Iww
On Britney and Chris Crocker (My favorite of all the videos):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qmDJ0_XndQQ
If you don't know who Chris Crocker is, go here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kHmvkRoEowc
On the end of Big Brother:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5IhFrdhyWPc
And for one more disturbing Chris Crocker:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h863nXDqCM0
Unfortunately, he is MUCH better here than Britney was on the VMAs.

To Lanie:
In response to her comment about the South demanding Air Conditioning...
I have a co-worker who lives in Atlanta and I was just talking to her yesterday about the heat. She also was amazed that I don't have AC. I don't know. Many people do here, many don't. Until the last few summers the Bay Area in general doesn't really need AC except a few days a year. Then the last three or so have been scorching. I rent, so I don't want to pay for it - plus, couldn't afford it before. This summer has actually been really nice, back to normal FINALLY. But this week it's caught up with us. It's supposed to stay hot until at least Monday now I hear.
I feel like the hole in the ozone must be directly over San Jose. It's not just the heat, it's the force of the sun just seems so much HOTter.
At the moment I'm sitting in my nice, air conditioned cubicle... but in a minute I must drive to my not-air-conditioned Spanish class. And then I drive to Aptos.
Adios!

P.S. Sad
If anyone else reads Pink Is The New Blog (and if you don't, then you should start), it looks like Trent and his boyfriend have broken up. If you do read it, you'll know that is really sad news, and my little heart breaks for him. I hope he gets over it soon, and I hope everyone out there keeps good thoughts for Trent because he has always seemed like a really really good person. That is all. I'm out.

For Rachael and anyone else
For those who weren't aware of "the Plan":
I am in school as an English major, hoping to finish my Masters so I can teach English Literature at the college level. I am just starting my Senior year to get my BA, but it will take me three semesters because I need ten more units of Spanish. A Masters requires 20 units of a foreign language. After my BA it should take 4 to 5 semesters to finish my Masters.
And then I'll be on my own, all growed up!

Itsy is a bad, bad, bad girl
In the time since Itsy's last post I have:
1. Started and finished an entire summer class in college
2. Completed my University orientation
3. Had my six year anniversary at Diaryland
4. Taken 4 different kids to and from two different camps
5. Completed Swim Season and won two championships
6. Had the worst flu of my life and recovered
7. Lost 12 pounds and gained 10
8. Sold my mother's house and her car
9. Grounded Buffy three different times
10. I can't think of one more for a nice round number BUT
that doesn't excuse her for being gone for so long. Itsy is SO grounded. And overdue for a spanking.
She better come back pregnant.

Megs!!
Omigod, I got to meet Megs!!!!
The only bad part was that I could only have an hour with her. That's just too little time.
My first impression: She's so LITTLE. I was wearing heels, but still.... she's tiny.
And her hair is not red (Scandalous!) It's light brown with blonde streaks.
You know what? She wasn't wearing red lipstick like she does in so many pictures, I bet that's what made her look so different to me.
But she's definitely tiny.
And sweet. And cute. And so very nice and friendly and... I wish I could have had more time. It always takes a while to get used to the thought that the two dimensional person you've known over the internet - for over six years we've known every move, life decision and secret thought - and suddenly that person is three dimensional and moving right in front of you with sound even. It takes a while to get that two dimensional person into your three dimensional reality. And then it was all over, time was up.
I loved her. She's sweet and adorable and so pretty and so tiny. I hope she comes back soon so we can actually DO something together. I'm sad that we only had an hour.

*yawwwwwn*
It's been a slow couple weeks at work, and it felt really good today to come in and get some things done and accomplished, after being given some goals to work on. But then I did most of them and there's no work coming in and I'm tired of thinking about essays and zzzzzzzzzzz....
A lot of my goals involve contacting people who all seem to be on vacation this week, so I suppose next week will be better. And of course tomorrow I have the day off to pick Buffy up from camp and go to the beach. A good day to have off since there's probably going to be zero work to do.
But today after work I get to go meet... Megs! Yeppers, at 5pm we'll be at the bar at the Hyatt. Of course, I'll be drinking water cuz I still have to write that essay, but it will be nice to finally meet one of my webmasters, designer and caretaker of this blog. (I've already met Shanni who did the journal and who I adore). It will be really, really nice to meet Megs, one of my first friends here. We've both come a long way since we first met online.
And with that I look for more work to do.

Anenigma profile - diary (new) - updated 21 days ago.
What the heck? And then I clicked to see if I missed an entry where she says she'll be back in a couple weeks and... IT'S PASSWORD PROTECTED????
WHAT THE F*** is up with that??
These things only happen for a reason, and I hope this reason isn't a bad one.

Comments back:
Question from commenters:
How old would I be if I didn't get my Ph.D?
Which means I would have my Masters and be able to teach community college:
43-44, 45 tops allowing for unseen problems. Which is different from 50. BUT. I wouldn't necessarily be 50 either. If it took 8 years, I would be fifty. But if I can get through my BA in 2 years (probable), and get into UCSC, I think I can have my Ph.D. by 47. And I would get to teach my third year into the doctoral studies - at UCSC, required, so you can't really beat that.
I think I am really comfortable with this decision, it feels as right as the day I decided to go back to school. And it isn't like me to settle for less than what someone else can do, hence the old "Fear of Failing" title I used to have. And all I ever do, when I'm not stressing out about probate stuff, is think about school. I LOVE SCHOOL. To the point of ignoring everything else in my life - which is probably the definition of a doctoral student.
*****
ALSO, it seems that my example is FINALLY paying off with the kids. Buffy is suddenly intent on getting great grades through high school and going straight to SJSU (she refuses to go to community college- remember? it's "not a real college") and even Spike (who only failed two classes this semester) now thinks it would be pretty fantastic to be called Doctor Spike. And let me tell you, if wanting to be Doctor Spike only gets him through Community College or even graduated from high school, this will all be worth it.
:-D

And lastly...
Catie has informed me that she is in charge of deciding who is and is not a Super Star. And she has declared me to be a Super Star, and although I informed her she was wrong, she then explained to me how she is the Boss of all this, etc. etc.
So anyway, I'm thinking of sending out a memo at work. Because, you know, my coworkers have the right to know this information. I mean, I'm sure they will be surprised to know that they are working with a Super Star, and they'll probably want to show their appreciation with gifts and applause and stuff.
...and now I have to take Charleen to the doctor since she has rolled her eyes so hard they are stuck in the back of her head.

Q&A Period
I received a good comment in my guestbook:
Why don't you donate your furniture to goodwill or something instead of renting a dumpster and throwing it out? reuse, recycle, provide for another family in the process...
And I have a good answer to that:
Because the furniture that is going out would not be accepted by the Goodwill. I don't know about your Goodwills, but in the Bay Area they are picky picky picky. The couch is threadbare and has holes. Goodwill won't touch it. Remember, this is furniture that was donated to US after the fire, and some of it even barely survived the fire and has sat in the garage for 3 years. It's all had quite a few lifetimes and shows it. It's dumpster material for sure. We have already donated and sold at garage sales over the last 3 years anything that can be saved. The rest is just junk that holds up the TV and is comfortable for us to sit on, but no one else wants it.
Believe me, we refuse to throw away anything. The Goodwill gets anything I can convince them to take. But when it comes to furniture there are very few places in the Bay Area that will take old, beat up things. And my house is now overflowing with this stuff. It has to go.

Just an interesting note
"Perhaps the most explosive technological trend over the past two years has been blogging. As a matter of fact, it's been reported that the number of blogs during that time has grown from 100,000 to 4.8 million-with no end to this growth in sight."
This quote (from a technical book about RSS feeds) really highlights the changes in blogging over the years - and journal writing too. It is not what it used to be and never will be again. One the one hand, I'm pretty proud that I was one of the first, on the other hand, I mourn the writing that I can no longer do because it truly is so much more in the public eye now.

Notes back:
Shanni: I checked and my Good in Bed is the abridged version. I agree with you and get the unabridged whenever possible, but this one was almost six hours and I never noticed anything wierd. I still recommend it.
SingleDadGuy: I realized today that I never answered your very very kind email. I apologize. I still have it on my list of things to do. I am very bad with return email, especially when the message was as kind as yours, and I'm very sorry.
Anonymous "i": Whichever of you recommended "Chicken Payback" by A Band of Bees, I love you for it. What a song!!!! Everyone else go download it! and recommend more happy dancing-feet songs!
Juls: I know you're out there - what do you have on that iPod of yours? I know it's books AND music, and you run like crazy, so cough up some good ones for me!

Old skool Diaryland
If anyone remembers CordeliaMeg, long-time disappeared Diarylander and founder of Diaryland Survivor, she emailed me today and she is alive and well. I can't tell you where she's writing now, but because she is someone we sometimes worry about and always care about, I just wanted to pass on that she is still around at least. What do you all recommend?
I find myself resisting getting an iPod because... well because I always resist getting what everyone else has.
However, if that is the best option, I'll do it.

Personal Letter:
To Catie,
I totally thought of you while watching Martha, and figured you probably were a big fan... but I still didn't like her... and I think you would totally disapprove of her handwriting too.
As for the mailman, I totally suspected him myself. Except that even Netflix is no longer estimating the arrival at 2 days anymore, the expected arrival is now 6-7 days after they mail it. So now I'm suspecting Netflix of just being a bunch of lazy asses.
Love,
Pischina
P.S. I don't want to get TiVo or I'll get sucked into watching TV all the time again. No TV. TV is evil. Except for Donald Trump. And Jeff Probst, but I don't get his channel.

Presents are for friends and that is that.
I think it's funny that (just like when I was mad at certain people and only the people I wasn't mad at were apologizing) when I say I'm getting presents for the people who love me they are again the first people to deny needing presents.
And that is why I consider them friends, and why it really doesn't matter what non-friends have to say, and also why they are getting presents like it or not.
There are certain people I've met here who I value very much, and who I'm really glad I've "met". We have all been through quite a bit of shit together here on the internet and out in real life. And my good friends are getting presents. Because I can do it.
So quit arguing with me.

"Two squirrels came up to my front door this morning, stared straight at me through the glass with very blatant "Give me a peanut" looks on their faces. "Give me a peanut why aren't you giving me a peanut why aren't there peanuts out here I want a peanut." I stuck a peanut-filled fist out, and one of them was so excited it lunged at me and nearly bit my entire hand off. Silly things. I adore them."
I love that girl!

I learned in science tonight that all of Canada's population is about the same as all of California's.
I don't know what that means, just thought I'd share.

Also, it was really REALLY beautiful and sunny today in Aptos, and I know Catie would have just loved it here. She probably would have loved the movie too, but oh well.

My imaginary friend
Sometimes I know I spend too much time on the computer when I realize I spend a good part of my day wondering what Catie would think if she ever came to my house, and how messy is messy to her, and I wonder what time does she get up in the morning, and Oh, it's sunny outside, Catie will be so happy today!
All this for a woman I've never met.
Oh, and it's almost Kim's birthday - you know, the Kim who sometimes is around and sometimes is not, and she better reappear soon so we can all wish her a happy birthday. Another woman I've never met who I worry about all the time. Also, haven't heard from Angel since before Christmas. Some people better post something very very soon.

Now leave me some! hahaha...
Thanks to Megs my broken comments are all better, but there's a 5 day limit on each post to protect me from those evil spammers... that means you have to check my posts more often if you want to comment, haha.
Okay, it also means that I better update more than once ever 5 days, eh? Okay! Deal!

Blogger friends
I was stuck in some pretty bad traffic on the way home today so I decided to call some fellow bloggers.
First I called Megs, but I got her voicemail so I left her a message, then I called Mocksie and had a very nice conversation with her even though she's sick right now,
:-(
so then I called Itsy, but maybe she changed her phone number, or maybe she speaks french, but I got a voicemail with a very fast french talker who didn't sound all that Itsy-like, so I hung up.
Then I was running out of time. So no more phone calls, hee.
School's almost over.

As for Kim, I'm going to trust that she'll re-appear again AND tell me where. I guess I've finally gotten used to her going away, but I still worry, especially with all she's going through again. Kisses to you Kim.

Subservient Chicken
Kim says she had him pray, so we told him to pray two different times. First time he got on his knees and crossed himself, prayed, then crossed himself again. The second time he got on his knees and pressed his face to the floor. We had him do yoga, lay an egg, fall down (VERY funny), and then told him to do kung fu. He seemed to love the kung fu, he went on forever. We always tell him he's a good chicken and he seems very happy.
Oh, but then I told him to get me a beer, and he came up way close to the camera and ya know what? That is one SCARY chicken!

I found this at Traceee's site. Tell the chicken-man what to do and he does it.

We had him do jumping jacks, the moonwalk, and dance like Elvis.

But...
I got my Jeep back today! My boss paid half ($863) and I paid half and I drove it home and the convertible is back resting in the driveway, and now we can go to the laundromat without being buried to our eyeballs in dirty clothes. WOOOO for extra storage room! And no more car worries!
Also, I have pictures from Buffy's birthday to post, just haven't gotten around to it.

From Catie Cake:
I thought this was just so funny:
"Secondly, I am sick and tired of women who keep their maiden names. Sue me. I hate it. It makes addressing envelopes a huge pain in the ass and also I think it’s just strange. I had a hard time changing my name when I got married, but I got over it. I really have no idea what the point is. My theory is that these women are a pain in the ass. They’ve got issues surrounding being married and the horrible old fashionedness of the whole thing and so they keep their name because they think it makes them more independent or better in a crisis or taller or something. Mostly it just makes them a pain in the ass at Christmas card envelopes addressing time."

VerucaAmish
I'm going to bed now but I wanted to ask if any of you could help a friend of mine.
VerucaAmish is one of the best writers in Diaryland and it's a dang shame that he's using that purple Diaryland template. He's too good of a writer.
So anyway, does anyone have any layouts handy? When I talked to him about it he mentioned this: "I've had dreams of having a layout with Veruca Salt chasing a bunch of Amish people and having oompa loompas be the buttons to get people to the guestbook/older entries etc." I'm not sure if he was joking or not, hee heee.
Anyone feeling creative at the moment?
Thanks very much.

EMail
Oh, and as if it's not bad enough that I love reading email but never get around to returning them,
I found a BUNCH more new email in my BULK box today from FRIENDS.
I really like that Yahoo filters spam so much more thoroughly,
But I still have to go through the entire thing every day to make sure nothing is missed.
Oh, like my Diarist.net Finalist nomination, that was also in my BULK email.
So if you've emailed me in the past month and I didn't answer...
You might want to email again, heh.
Or then again, it could be that I just haven't had a chance to return it.

Phone Calls
So I was driving home today and traffic was slooooooooow because of too many accidents, so I decided to call Megs and wish her Happy Thanksgiving but she didn't answer so I left her a very long message.
Then I called Mocksie and she didn't answer either so I left her a message.
So then I called Itsy and her Boy picked up and I said, "Hello is..." (Itsy, no..., Itsy Itsy Itsy... what's her name.... Shannon!) "Shannon available?" And he put her on the phone.
"Hi it's Pischina!"
"You Silly, you called during Survivor!"
"Oh, HANG UP! HANG UP!!!"
Then I realized everyone whose phone number I have is on the East Coast and I didn't want to interrupt any more Survivors, so I just drove home.
So.
Can you believe I'm a finalist for a Diarist.net award???
I can't.
:-)
