'Tis Pity She's a Whore
We had a lot of fun at the play. And the 2 hours 40 minutes did fly by.
First we got there and received discounted drinks from the bar.
Then a theater lady exchanged our balcony tickets for fourth row tickets because since it was Father's Day the theater had not been filled.
THEN it turned out the play, about incest, is just about as bloody as a "Saw" movie. EXCELLENT. You don't see plays like this every day.
The set was beautiful, at the top of the set was an angel who played cello during the play. This was the only music during the production.
So in the play the sister gets pregnant by her brother, and her husband finds out. Threatened with being outed the brother stabs his sister in the heart and she dies. As she lays there dead, he takes his long knife, holds it to her pregnant belly, and THRUSTS it into her, just as the lights go out, spotlight on the Angel who stands up, starts banging out these terrifying notes in a minor key ont the cello, at the same time letting out these horrific SHRIEKS.
I started laughing. It was so damn hilarious - because seriously, when do you see all this in a stage production? Everyone got stabbed to death in the play, at the end there are just dead bloody bodies EVERYWHERE, with the hacked-to-pieces sister laying bloody in the middle of the stage, and even the live characters covered in blood.
I would say 99% of the audience (pretty much everyone but us three) were over the age of 70. I don't know if they knew what the play was about before buying their tickets, but I imagine the shreiking angel gave some of them the frights.
Anyway, we loved it. I'm glad we got the chance to see it. Much fun.
