Dracula!

I've been studying 19th Century British Literature this summer.
I finished Frankenstein, which was good, but started to bore me to tears towards the end.
I finished Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde which was also good, but short, and a little... amateurish (sorry, RL Stevenson).
Now I'm reading Dracula, which was written towards the end of the century, and I LOVE it.
The writing is very modern so it's not difficult to read at all, it's SUPER scary, and I've just been devouring it as fast as I can. It is so so so interesting!

So I'm recommending it. I don't often recommend the books I read in school, because really, who wants to read Old Arcadia or Faerie Queene or Jew of Malta just for fun? Only a crazy English major. But Dracula... that is a really really good book. If you haven't read it before, you should read it. Great summer reading too!

GAH, I'm only halfway done, I have 200 pages to go and I can't read fast enough!!!

Summer School just became bearable

So our professor today gave up and said he would give us our final as a take home exam.

My life just became a whole lot easier.

More about "Wanted"

Ya know, I just saw a bunch of review comments for the movie, and I have to say...

Get a life.

I mean, have some fun once in a while!

This movie is not, by any stretch of the imagination, believable. Not in any way, time, place, whatever, it's not believable.

Is it THE MOST FUCKING BADASS FUN and EXCITING movie you've seen in a long time?
YES.

Before going to the theater I had heard that it was definitely fun and full of action, but that you had to suspend your disbelief. So I did that. The movie starts out in cubicle land and for five minutes you're wondering if you walked into the correct theater.

Then it switches scenes, and there you are presented with the most preposterous set up EVER, and yet it was SO FUCKING FANTASTIC that I couldn't help but jump up and down in my seat clapping my hands.

And the first time Angelina starts shooting up a convenience store wearing a sweet little white summer dress with that crazy scowl she has (go ahead click on the link, I'll wait for you)...

I clapped my hands again and yelled "YeeeeeAAAAHHHHH!!!!!!!"

So that's my review. You should go see the movie. It's rated R and for good reason, but if you're 17 and above, JUST GO SEE THE MOVIE. You will LOVE it, I promise.

You'll want to be Angelina Jolie when you grow up, that's for sure.

Wanted - The Movie

I feel it is my duty to tell you that you must all get your butts over to the theater this weekend and buy a ticket to see "Wanted" with Angelina Jolie.

Holy crap that was a good movie.

It was 1000 times better than I even imagined. It has a little unexpected "Office Space" (complete with red stapler! HAH!) and healthy doses of "Matrix", "TombRaider" and "Fight Club" mixed with the best parts of any action movie you can think of.

And Angelina Jolie is the biggest badass EVER. As if you didn't know. But she out-does herself here.

As soon as the end credits rolled Buffy, who will never admit to liking any movie that I have forced her to go to, turned to her friend and said, "OMIGOD I LOVED that movie."

And that about sums it up.

This mom is not a dummy

Just to be clear, I didn't give Buffy $10 because of the trick we played on her. I made her pull weeds for it. I told her I had no intention of giving her $10 for being oblivious to her surroundings, and meanwhile her friend could not stop saying, "But how could you not SEE this???"

It certainly was fun while it lasted, but at least I got to see her face, and the whole scene was priceless. Now we can all just be happy we have some relief in the heat, and ya'll won't have to listen to me complain all summer long.

Not that we hear about "heat" in the weather report. Even on the national reports you can see the weather in California is just "Smoke". We actually have no sky, just greyness, we don't even have a skyline downtown -- just "Smoke".

But that doesn't stop me from getting in my pool.

Buffy says I owe her ten dollars

So Buffy and friend come home at 1:30 after summer school today and Buffy immediately goes to the computer. Friend stands next to her talking to me, and after approximately ONE MINUTE says "Oh, you guys got a pool?"

Buffy stares at the computer screen.
Friend looks at me.
I mouth "she doesn't know."

Friend, "What? Hey Buffy, you wanna swim in the pool?"
Buffy stares at the computer screen.
I get a giant smirk on my face.
Friend says, "What's going on? When did you get a pool? Buffy?"

Buffy turns around, looks RIGHT OUT THE WINDOW, and says, "What, a baby pool? We have a baby pool?"

Friend: "No, you have a HUGE FREAKING POOL, RIGHT THERE."

Suddenly, Buffy either opens her eyes, or turns her brain on, or SOMETHING, because she finally sees the pool. "WE HAVE A POOL???"

Me: Um, since Saturday.

Buffy runs outside, friend following, and me following them, laughing.
Buffy: We have a pool??? Why didn't you TELL me???
Friend: Buffy! HOW did you not SEE this pool? Why would they have to TELL YOU? OMIGOSH, how did you not SEE this pool?????
Me: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA - Also, Spike and his friends have been having pool parties every single day out here and you STILL didn't know.
Buffy: "F you ALL! You owe me ten dollars, Mom!"
Me: Why do I owe you ten dollars?
Buffy: Because this is messed up! You owe me! Why didn't you tell me!
Friend: Why did she have to TELL you???
Me: It took Friend one minute to see the pool Buffy!
Friend: I even saw it yesterday, I just didn't say anything. I can't believe you didn't see this pool!
Buffy: I DON'T LOOK OUTSIDE.
Friend: Buffy, this is a big ass pool.
Me: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Buffy: TEN DOLLARS.

In the end, I made her pull some weeds in the backyard to get her ten dollars so they could go to Jamba Juice. Then they're going to play in the pool.

And if Friend had not told her, you know she wouldn't have found out until September.

Me: If you think I'M bad, Spike didn't want to tell you until it was time to drain the pool.
Buffy: Why is THAT funny??
Friend: Buffy, how did you not see the pool???
Buffy: That's messed up. F you all, you're all messed up. You owe me.
Friend: But how... ???

And thus the invisible pool finally becomes visible.

Buffy and the Invisible Pool: Wednesday Evening

Yes, it is Wednesday evening, and apparently the pool is still invisible.

I may have to send her to mow the backyard this weekend or pull weeds or something, and just pray that she doesn't fall in and drown before she realizes there's a TWELVE FOOT DIAMETER POOL SITTING IN THE BACKYARD. Geeeeez. Not even Spike and I had figured it would actually take an entire week.

Buffy and the Invisible Pool: Tuesday evening

I came home today around 4:30pm and Buffy and a friend were sitting here in the computer room (20 feet from the pool) watching TV and MySpace, looking hot and sweaty. They'd been there since 2:00 this afternoon. I really wanted to tell them they should go play in the backyard (HINT!!!), but I didn't have any real desire to end our fun game with her. Around 6:00 they decided to walk to another friends house, just in time for Spike to arrive with a huge group of friends to have another BBQ/Pool party. It's 9 pm and those guys are still here, now playing ball in the street (because one friend almost threw a ball into my brand new baby lime tree and Spike recognized that there would be fun for no one if I saw it happen so he moved the party to the street - See? Smart boy). Buffy will be back in about 15 minutes, but it will be dark and she won't see the pool.

HEEEEEEEE.

I'll have to break down and tell her this weekend, not right away of course, but I'm SURE she'll notice that we're all hanging out in the backyard, in our bathing suits, soaking wet.... SURELY she'll notice that, right? hahahaha...

I don't mind all the BBQs Spike is having because his friends all bring the goods and they make sure I get a burger or a hot dog so I don't have to cook. I bought them a trash can for the patio (and taught them how to use it) so they've been very good at cleaning things up after.

And I just remembered my midterm tomorrow so I better get off here and get to studying.

Buffy and the Invisible Pool: Tuesday Morning

So last night one of Buffy's friends came over but Buffy was with her dad so the friend went to hang out with Spike and his friends. The next thing I see is the friends bringing her into the backyard to see the pool. I went running out the back door - "YOU CAN'T TELL BUFFY!!!!" I yelled, "PLEASE don't tell her!!! PROMISE you won't tell her or ANYONE!"

"Oh, I WON'T," the friend laughed, "I mean... HOW do you not notice this???? Buffy has to be BLIND to not see this!"

No, she just has to be a 16 year old girl. At any rate, she woke up today, made breakfast, and went off to summer school. Still no awareness of the pool outside.

Posted by Pischina at 8:16 AM | Comments (2)

Me no dummy!

Oh Shannon, of COURSE we put a tarp under the pool!
:-D

Even more hilarious, there's a big box of pool chemicals sitting on the floor right here next to me, which is three feet from the computer chair she's sitting in right now.

9:35pm Monday, Buffy still doesn't know there's a pool in her back yard. Since Saturday.

Posted by Pischina at 9:35 PM | Comments (0)

The world revolves around...

So Buffy came home yesterday afternoon from her father's house, and Spike and I and all his friends agreed we would NOT tell her about the pool, but would wait to see how long it takes to discover it. Because as a 16 year old girl, if something is not happening in her room or on the computer screen (on the MySpace website to be exact), it does not exist. Spike and friends and I all agree that we could be lounging around in our bathing suits for a week, going in and out the back yard soaking wet, and she still will not notice the 12' pool sitting right there, visible from five different house windows.

And so far, so good. In fact, when she came home Spike was having a bbq in the back yard, there are towels and pool toys littering the patio, and four citronella torches lit and surrounding the pool. Buffy came right in, noted the smell of smoke from the torches, and sat down in front of the computer.

This morning she got up, got ready for school, made some breakfast in the kitchen which has a window that looks out on the back yard, and then left for summer school.

The rest of us are cracking up, knowing it may take until next weekend when she wakes up and has to go looking for us all as we're floating in the pool. We all just hope we're there to see her face when she finally realizes there's been a giant swimming pool sitting right there in her backyard for god-knows-how-many days.

Because when you have a 16 year old girl living in your house, you take your enjoyment when you can.

Yesterday's Lightning

Looks like there were around 400 fires from the lightning yesterday. I'm glad our little fire never grew to more than that, a little fire.

In other summer news, we bought a pool yesterday. "10 minute set up" it said on the box. They boys (Spike and friend) believed that; I'm an adult and know better, haha. The entire project took at least three hours, since we had to go back to another store to get a foot pump and some pool toys (30 minutes), then friend pumped it up all by himself (about 20 minutes), the boys figured out and installed the pump (10 minutes), we had to move the pool and re-cut some tough weeds that were causing pokies under the pool (30 minutes), and THEN we stick the hose in to fill it up (2+ hours). It's still not full, but it became too dark for me to see after 10pm. So today we'll finish filling it AND spend time in it.

We're feeling all landscape-y now, and want to install some more bushes, a walkway to the pool, and maybe plant some ground cover where the old grass long-ago died. Perhaps we'll have a nice backyard soon!

But no matter what, we'll be cool in the pool!

Posted by Pischina at 9:05 AM | Comments (2)

No more fire

And just like that, the fire was put out.
It took all of two minutes for sirens to start roaring up the street and the smoke went out pretty fast. Seems like it took a good ten minutes for them to get to my house when it was on fire, but god forbid the creek catch fire.

Anyway, another fire disaster averted. We continue baking in the summer heat.

Posted by Pischina at 4:37 PM | Comments (0)

Fire away

So we just started having some terrible thunder, which is wierd because it's 95F and the cloud hanging in the sky looked like just residual smoke.

But Spike just called me outside. "Did you hear the thunder?" he asked. "Yes," I replied. "Look," he said, and pointed to the foothills that surround our neighborhood.

Smoke.

Yup, it hit (hopefully) some trees, and we have a fire going in the extremely dry hills. Can't see exactly where it is, it's very near, but I think it's just outside the house line, so it should be a tree.

The sirens are coming now.

Congratulations Spike!

Spike completed his last project for high school last week and turned it in on Friday.
Today we received a letter in the mail marking 0 credits due, and a "Nice work, see you at graduation on August 6" from the principal.

My boy is an official high school graduate!

And also an official college student (although he's been taking college classes for two years now) and enrolled in 12 units next semester:

Fire better for now

I just talked to Scott. He was allowed back in his house last night at 9pm. Many funny stories about how they collected all the animals, and how happy the cats were to be in boxes (REEEEEEALLY happy, if you know what I mean). Not many funny stories about the theory that these fires were set intentionally - Having been through a fire, I can tell you that to set one is just EVIL. To set one knowing that the fire could destroy many homes, that is just beyond evil.

Everyone is kind of jumpy in the Santa Cruz area, you could feel the jumpiness after the first major fire this summer, but now that there have been 3-4+ fires and it's only mid-June, things are really on edge.

It's going to be another 105+ degree F day today. Cooler tomorrow, but we have to get through today first. Aptos has a bad air warning because of the fires, and I can smell the fires at my house, it smells like there's a fire in the neighborhood. It's gross.

10:30am and it's already 85F in the house. And rising. Yesterday we were drinking buckets of water and never had to pee. Today I'm going to the gym to swim. Hope it's cooler where you all are, and fire free.

edited to add: My little weather notice over there ---> shows that it is 91F in San Jose at the moment, and RAINING. I assure you, there is not a raincloud in the sky right now.

Better news

So when I look at the fire map Scott's house is just outside of the evacuation area, as Leslie had said, although Scott's house DID get an evacuation call, so who knows what is going on. The bad news is the fire is still very close; the good news is they already have it 50% contained and this evening's news says they expect 100% containment by 8am. THAT is great news.

This particular fire had to have been much easier to fight than the Bonny Doon fire as it is MUCH easier to get to the area in this case.

I'll hear from Scott tomorrow as to what exactly is happening over there. He had promised to call with an update, but I understand things must be a little upside down for him right now.

Posted by Pischina at 11:09 PM | Comments (0)

Interesting.
The news says Aptos High School is serving as the evacuation center, but Aptos High School is only a couple blocks down the street from Scott's house. So here's hoping this means Scott's evacuation is at the very very end of the worry zone.

Posted by Pischina at 4:58 PM | Comments (2)

Evacuation Time

And now they've given the evacuation order. He has to go home and get it all packed up, animals too, and get out.

And then wait to hear if his home survives.

This is going to be a long summer.

Fire Fire Go Away and Don't Come Back

So now Watsonville is on fire and that is so close to Scott's house that his street is the last exit that is open from the freeway now. The rest is closed off. Three "raging fires" as the news calls them. Set on purpose is the theory. There is virtually nothing in between Scott's house and Watsonville but trees. He lives in the woods. This time when I talked to him he actually sounds very worried, he never did before.

Me, I'm suffering from heat exhaustion and don't want to think about fires any more, especially any that are near Scott's house.

Blah.

I'm going to take a cold shower now.

'Tis Pity She's a Whore

We had a lot of fun at the play. And the 2 hours 40 minutes did fly by.
First we got there and received discounted drinks from the bar.
Then a theater lady exchanged our balcony tickets for fourth row tickets because since it was Father's Day the theater had not been filled.
THEN it turned out the play, about incest, is just about as bloody as a "Saw" movie. EXCELLENT. You don't see plays like this every day.

The set was beautiful, at the top of the set was an angel who played cello during the play. This was the only music during the production.

So in the play the sister gets pregnant by her brother, and her husband finds out. Threatened with being outed the brother stabs his sister in the heart and she dies. As she lays there dead, he takes his long knife, holds it to her pregnant belly, and THRUSTS it into her, just as the lights go out, spotlight on the Angel who stands up, starts banging out these terrifying notes in a minor key ont the cello, at the same time letting out these horrific SHRIEKS.

I started laughing. It was so damn hilarious - because seriously, when do you see all this in a stage production? Everyone got stabbed to death in the play, at the end there are just dead bloody bodies EVERYWHERE, with the hacked-to-pieces sister laying bloody in the middle of the stage, and even the live characters covered in blood.

I would say 99% of the audience (pretty much everyone but us three) were over the age of 70. I don't know if they knew what the play was about before buying their tickets, but I imagine the shreiking angel gave some of them the frights.

Anyway, we loved it. I'm glad we got the chance to see it. Much fun.

'Tis Pity I can't take ya'll with me

So off I go to see another play today, 'Tis Pity She's a Whore, by John Ford. It's back to San Francisco for us (my two classmates and I) and I just found out that it's 2 hours 40 minutes. Jeez Louise, that's a long play. I think I'm done with driving to San Francisco for awhile after this.

But I know we'll have fun!

Movies - Kung Fu Panda

We saw Kung Fu Panda today, on advice from my favorite movie reviewers, Scene Unseen. I'm not that big on animated films, but when Scene Unseen says a movie is good, they are always right. So I dragged Buffy and her two friends with me to see it. None of them wanted to see it but weren't going to turn down a free movie.

And we laughed SO HARD during the whole thing, and all of us agreed, that was one good movie.

So go see it. There is no charge for the awesomeness of Kung Fu Panda!

Stupid Fires

So Santa Cruz is on F-ing fire AGAIN. I don't remember Santa Cruz ever being on fire until this year and now we're losing houses and homes left and right. It totally sucks. I feel so badly for those families, and there's nothing I can do for them, and it completely stresses me out. On top of that, one of my readers is from Bonny Doon, where the fire is, and she is surely evacuated. Leslie, just know I'm thinking about you and crossing my fingers for you and your family and your home. And hoping that I'm totally remembering it wrong, that you're NOT from Bonny Doon. (I always get Bonny and Ben Lomond confused!)

So you think you can dance, huh?

I love this show so much and am SO FREAKING EXCITED about it starting tonight. Even Mary's frightful screams are bringing tears to my eyes.

And the Summer Olympics!!! Coming Soon!!!! It will be Pischina Screams pretty soon!

Also, I totally aced my Modern English midterm. Totally!

Tuesday update

Scott and I had a very nice quiet time in Volcano as we always do, and it was nice to see a new cafe open called "Humble Pies and Coffee". This place had honestly the best pies either of us had ever tasted, hands down, and would be worth the 2-1/2 hour drive just to get one. They also served meat pies, sausage rolled in pie dough, etc. It was awesome.

All weekend I kept saying we needed to go to the town store to get new batteries for my camera because I wanted to finally take some good pictures of Volcano. We never made it to the store until the last day, right before leaving. We were going to take a quick walk around town (you can walk the perimeter in less than 10 minutes) and take pictures, then go home. So I bought a 4-pack of batteries, put two in my camera...

And it still said I needed new batteries. So I put the other two in, managed to keep the camera on long enough to get one photo, and the camera died again.

I pulled out the battery package and looked at the date: 2004.

Scott started laughing hysterically as I stood there pissed off. "I don't think this is funny," I said, "I wanted to take pictures! You know I wanted to take pictures all weekend!"

"I just think it's hilarious," said Scott,"that we would go into that stupid store and actually believe that any batteries we found would not have been sitting on the shelf for the last four fucking years! Of COURSE they're four years old, look where we are!!!"

And he's right. You stay the weekend at an old mining ghost town, population 80-some people of which you never see more than 15, you don't exactly expect to find new batteries. So we left. But we did have a good time up until then.

I saw two DVDs this weekend, I know I'm behind the times, but I just saw "Juno" and "Gone Baby Gone". I liked them both. I think if you're the type of person who would like "Juno" then you've probably already seen "Juno" so that's all I have to say about that. But "Gone Baby Gone" actually blew me away. That was an awesome story with awesome actors and it was an awesome movie. If you haven't seen that one yet, then you definitely need to see it.

My Modern English class is going well. After calling me "scary smart" last week, and telling the class I was probably going for a law degree, my professor and I have come to a mutual respect and I actually really like the guy. He made a comment that I must have had teaching experience before, and when I said No, he said that I was going to make an excellent teacher. I take that comment with a grain of salt because the class is full of morons who make me look like a genius, but it was a nice compliment anyway. He said he'll be one of my references for the graduate program too. First midterm is tomorrow, so we're flying through this summer class.

Buffy is grounded again, what else is new, yet for all the trouble she gives me I am amazed at how much worse all of her friends are. The majority of her friends are getting straight Fs - yeah, straight Fs. How do you even DO that?? But the good news is that one of them is being sent to a continuation school next year - a pretty tough continuation school full of tough kids, and let me tell you, it couldn't happen to a nicer kid (*snort*) and I can't wait to hear she's getting her ass kicked every single day. Yes Charleen, I do mean Monique. Wahooooooo!!!! hahaha

Sound harsh? Trust me, you don't want that kid anywhere near your own kids.

The weather here is hot, so I am miserable, but I'm enjoying a nice work/school schedule for once and trying to get life and home back in order.

That's it for now.

Volcano here I come

Scott and I are packing up some clothes and books and my grammar workbook, and tomorrow we're heading off to Volcano again. We need a weekend of rest and quiet and greenery, with time to read whatever we feel like, and no kids around (especially daughters), and no work, and go have some good food and fresh air and walks and some good wine.

And no kids. Did I mention no kids?

So I'll see ya'll Sunday evening. Hope you all are having a great summer too!

Strange child

More strange facts about Buffy:
For a child who seems to hate school and is having a tough time getting through high school (I know, I know, she's another genius child - Can one genious child of mine just get their homework done???) she really surprises me sometimes. For one thing, the child absorbs history facts like a sponge. If only her history teacher knew how Buffy can recite entire histories of Germany and the Holocaust, and China and the Opium Wars, and actually have all her facts straight. I don't even remember half the stuff she has in her head, and I don't think I knew it even 5 minutes before or after my exams in high school (History was not really my thing, heh). But she definitely knows it all, and understands both sides to the histories, and the backgrounds and dates and...
anyway, she really knows her history. So why she only has a C in History I'll never understand.

The other thing is her vocabulary and her desire for a much larger vocabulary. She constantly asks me what words mean, and I see her then use them on her MySpace (correctly even!). She asked for a "Word of the Day" calendar, but calendar season is over. This evening I was telling her about my summer English professor, how he slips these ridiculously big words into every other sentence. For example, he actually said "fecund" in a sentence - and while I know what fecund means, I have never actually heard a real live person USE that word. Then, half an hour (and fifty more big words) later, he used "fecundity" in a sentence.
"Oh come ON," I thought, and looked at my watch. Class had been in session for 40 minutes. This man had used the words "fecund" and "fecundity" in less than 40 minutes. Personally, I think that's kind of ridiculous, but as I told this to Buffy, all she wanted to know was the definition. Not just the definition, but the EXACT definition, and I had to use them in several different sentences so she completely understood them. Then she started complaining that she didn't know these words before, and she wants to be able to talk like that!

"Mmm Buffy, NO ONE talks like that," I tried to tell her. But to no use - she wants that damn word a day calendar.

She's failing English by the way.

*****
I got my GRE essay scores today - I scored in the 88th percentile. Not bad. But it appears that somehow I marked for them to send the scores to Santa Clara University instead of UC San Diego - I'm really not sure how that happened, I have ZERO intention of attending Santa Clara. But whatevs, I will apply to the Masters program at SJSU and the PhD program at Santa Cruz for now.

It's 1:05am, and I'm going to bed.

Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde

I loved the play. I cannot wait to finish Frankenstein so I can read Dr. Jekyll. I had never seen any of the movies or plays or read the book - the extent of my familiarity with Dr. Jekyll comes from Bugs Bunny if you want the honest truth. I know, scandalous. But I really liked it and I thought the production was great. The kids knew about the same as I did, so while my son understood what was going on (and understood why one actor played Dr. Jekyll but four different actors [including one female] played, seperately and together, Mr. Hyde), my daughter was quite lost for most of the play. Her friend said he got it, but I think he was lieing, heh.

Eventually though, they all understood what was going on, and on the way home I explained the whole theme of evil being inside of us all. Then the car got quiet as everyone absorbed this thought, and re-remembered the whole play all over again.

Anyway, I can't wait to read the book, and to see how the play actually was adapted from the book for the stage. I really liked it though and we had a good time.

Tuesday Fun Night

We are off to the San Jose Repertory Theatre to see Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Both kids and Buffy's friend are coming with me. I'm in a pretty crappy mood right now so I'm hoping a night at the theater with maybe a vodka drink will put me back right.

Summer School

Oh, wait, you thought you were done with school posts? HAHAHAHA, yeah, never gonna happen.

I start my summer class Monday afternoon. Modern English, which is a required intense grammar class. I don't really believe I'll have a problem with it, so I'm eager to just get it over in six weeks. I'm sure I'll eat my words on that one.

I ordered the Norton book of literary criticism to study over the summer, party because I'm insane, partly because I'm mad that I learned exactly zilch in my class, and partly because I'm fascinated that no professor seems to want to teach it because it is so difficult.

And difficult is right up my alley. Don't be surprised to see me specializing in literary criticism, heh.

I saw a swim-team mom/friend at Time Trials Saturday, she asked if I had graduated yet, and when I told her I was going to apply to some PhD programs she shrieked, "Are you crazy???"

And I agreed that I probably am, but it also took me back to my very very first semester of school when I registered for 12 units while working full time. "Are you crazy???" was the question of the day, by everyone I spoke to. But then I got all A's, in every class. And now I'm graduating with all sorts of honors and a passed fluency exam and a lot more accomplished than I ever would have dreamed back in the Fall of 2004.

"Well I figured I'm not going to be accepted if I don't apply," was my answer after agreeing to my craziness. And that's really the answer. I think it's probably not likely that I will be accepted at this time, mainly because I don't have experience yet writing a paper that would be required for acceptance. But I do have a chance, and I have the beginnings of a paper that is appropriate.

So I'm still preparing to apply.

But tomorrow, it's Grammar.
