School, good and bad

I worked my little (well, big) butt off over the weekend catching up on school. Caught up on everything for Shakespeare, wrote six pages of my 10 page essay, did two chapters of my Spanish workbook and read every word of two chapters in the textbook, TWICE, to study for the test that was today.

I did not read the last two required chapters for Mythology, because nothing was due in that class, so I was going to catch up there over the weekend.

So today, there was a quiz. In Mythology.

Of course.

I was happy because 3/4 of the quiz was on the chapters that I had read, and I knew those answers. But it sucked because I probably got a 15-16 out of 20, and I could have gotten a 20.

But then I went to Spanish and the professor handed out the FIVE PAGE test. And I finished it in 30 minutes! I finished first! It was so easy! I knew every answer!!! Every one but one, but on a five page test, one stupid word (quejarse) will not matter.

So at least I got to go home happy.

Now I have to finish my essay, catch up on Mythology, and ready 80 more pages of Ovid by Wednesday.
I can do it!!!

"What the Buck" ROCKS

I may be the last person in the world to discover this guy, but in case I'm not, you HAVE to see these videos.

It's the "What the Buck Show"!!! And it's had me laughing out loud all morning long (instead of typing ten pages of Shakespeare essay).

(There are a lot of videos, these three are my favorites at the moment)

On Britney at the VMAs:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wr_yiKg-Iww

On Britney and Chris Crocker (My favorite of all the videos):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qmDJ0_XndQQ
If you don't know who Chris Crocker is, go here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kHmvkRoEowc

On the end of Big Brother:

And for one more disturbing Chris Crocker:

Unfortunately, he is MUCH better here than Britney was on the VMAs.

Diet breakfast foods

Okay everyone, I need your help, advice and ideas.

I am really doing well on my diet. But...

I need help with breakfast.
I need ideas for store-bought ready-to-eat items, items I can make at home, and easy to carry with me items. So any ideas you have will help.

Right now my options are oatmeal when I'm at home, and a Luna Bar/Power Bar/something like that for the mornings I have school.

My tummy just doesn't want food when I first get up, but if I don't have something within a couple hours then my tummy starts getting crabby and the diet is easier blown at lunch.

I have a freezer stocked with Lean Cuisines right now, which have pretty much saved the diet as they give me something quick and easy that I don't have to give any thought to when I don't have a dinner or lunch planned. So there's no reason to blow the diet. But mornings are difficult. I like oatmeal, but not every single day for days on end.

I see all kinds of diet dinners and lunches in the store, but nothing for breakfast. Am I blind? Are they there and I just don't see them?

So tell me, please. What are good low calorie or diet brand foods for breakfast?
Keeping in mind that I am up early and off to school by 7am.

On track for school

My equally-overachieving partner and I both spent a humiliating 90 minutes in Shakespeare Thursday morning, as NEITHER of us had found time to read The Jew of Malta but the class was divided into groups to discuss it. We both were in the same group and sat there stupidly while the other students attempted to answer the questions. LOOOOSERS.

But this weekend I am catching up on everything (being sick 3 times in 3 weeks slowed me way down). I read all of Jew of Malta. I read all of The Merchant of Venice. I watched the movie of tMoV. I finished 1/2 of my Spanish workbook. I developed my thesis for my Shakespeare essay and started research.

I just have to write one composition in Spanish, study for my Spanish exam, finish my spanish workbook, and read two chapters for Mythology. I have to finish all that by Sunday evening. I have 85 pages to read for my Ovid class due on Wednesday. Then my Shakespeare essay is due Thursday.

That may seem like a lot to do, but really it means I am back on track. Heh. Just a normal week for me really. Egads. But I'm pretty proud of what I accomplished in the last three days, and hopefully I can finish everything tomorrow.

I am NOT going to get sick.

SURVIVOR!!!!!!!!!!!!

YAYYYY!!!!

LOVE the new theme song, LOVE IT. Well played, Survivor!

LOVE the new hodge podge of Survivors.

Chicken and Lunch Lady - Love them. edit to say: Never mind. Liked Chicken until he went all wierdly anti-bossy.

Courtney - HATE. HATE HATE HATE.

Christian Radio lady - Whatever. I respected her decision to leave the ceremony - until she quoted the bible and then said "I'm not a religious person but I have a relationship with Jesus Christ." Lady, pick a side. I don't want to get into any arguments with people here, but WHATEVER. Are having a relationship with JC and being religious two different things? Just own your belief and I would have respected you more.

It never fails to surprise me that people actually show up, to SURVIVOR, with huge gold dangling earrings. Yeah, those will come in handy. Also - What was the point of bringing those huge suitcases??? SURVIVOR people, has ANYONE watched this show before????

Maybe Mr. Pro Poker Player could keep his shirt on until he starts losing some weight. I'm just saying. Yeah, I'm fat too, but I keep my shirt on. (Hear that Britney??) (and I've lost 6 pounds in 2 weeks, so BLAM!)

Monkeys!!!

ADORE the grave digger. I want to take him home and make him a nice hot dinner and be his friend, ya know?

Love Frosti - Frosti and Spike both do parkour, and parkour is awesome, plus - "FROSTI"??? Gotta love that.

Love the torch put-outter. Yayyy!

Overall, it seems like we have an awesome bunch of diverse, mostly likeable people. There are a few people we didn't see much of yet, but overall, I'm ready for this season!

Long live Survivor!!! Down with Big Brother (Donato haters - Unite!)!!!

I'm alive today

All doped up on allergy medication, I can mostly breathe through my nose, no sneezing (yet), my nose only runs a little, and aside from feeling pretty dopy and a little sluggish from the medicine, I think I can get through today. I did get through my Shakespeare class without too much misery. Now I get to work.

This evening is Back to School Night for Buffy. It seems I am ALWAYS sick on this night, so maybe I'm just allergic to the idea of visiting that stupid school, heh.

Oh lordy lordy lordy

I can't breeeeeeeeathe....

Posted by Pischina at 8:13 PM | Comments (3)

uuuuUUUUUUGGGGHHH

I took so much cold medicine today, and nothing helped. It must be allergies. I feel like CRAP.

I was miserable this morning at work and could only put in about 50% effort. I was so miserable from blowing my nose and still having it be plugged during Mythology that I had to skip out on Spanish - AGAIN. Third time in three weeks!!!!!

Went to the store and bought allergy medicine. I took some two hours ago, I still can't breathe through my nose. I'm so fricken miserabllllllllllle.

On top of the allergies my stupid stomach has been more and more upset all day. And gassy and burpy during school. Barely ate anything. Finally made a good stew for dinner, ate a small bowl, calmed my tummy down, but then gaaaaassssssy again. OWWIE. Just downed some Pepto Bismol.

I have tea brewing. Oh woe is meeeeee. I can't even read. I'm going to have to brush up on Sparknotes for tomorrow's lecture on Jew of Malta, cuz it's gonna get read today. BOOO.

Stick a fork in me

My allergies are killllllllling me, I have also come down with a nasty cold, Robert Jordan is dead, and it seems that I left my comb in Aptos.

It has not been a good day.

Posted by Pischina at 10:47 AM | Comments (0)

RIP Robert Jordan *sniff*

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh, fuck MEEEEEEE.

Robert Jordan is dead. Which is a tragedy in itself, because the man was a genius.

But it also means that those of us who have slogged through 10,000+ pages of his Wheel of Time series WILL NEVER HAVE AN ENDING.

I hope hope hope he had someone who knows what he is doing who can finish writing the series for him. This is the suckiest news about books that I have heard..... ever.

:-(

Better late than never

I wrote about our cruise, TADAAAAAH.

Hee.

Today my mom got a jury summons in the mail.

I don't think she's going to make it.

I can hear her now, "Oh Pischyyyyyy...." Sorry Mom. Also, I'm totally NOT cooking Thanksgiving turkey this year either.

This entry brought to you by the You-Only-Get-It-If-You-Know-Me Foundation.

And now I go back to not reading Midsummer's Night Dream. What? I just watched the movie Sunday afternoon, I'm good.

Not sorry, just clarifying

When I wrote the post below I kind of felt bad, but I was not gleefully wishing failure on Britney (no, Really!). I don't believe she's evil, and I don't wish any evil upon her. I just wish she would frickin hit bottom already so she can get her act back together! I mean... shaving her head wasn't rock bottom? Obviously not, because she has not improved anything.

Like I've said before, I am just fascinated by this girl because I don't understand her. She has all that money, all that talent (not singing, but yes in dancing and promoting herself), but the girl can barely dress herself in the morning. I just don't get her. And I still don't. How could the Britney of four years ago have thought last night that she was prepared for that performance? How does someone go from being so promotion-smart and business-savvy when she was a child, to the mess she is today as an adult? That's what I don't get. How someone can go backwards.

Okay, it's too early for this. I'm getting some work done now.

Britney didn't disappoint ME, heeee

I don't even know what to say about that performance on the VMAs. I will say this, I grudgingly admitted that I really sort of liked her new song when I first heard it. You know I can't stand this girl, so obviously I was expecting to hate it... but I couldn't quite. But I was really looking forward to seeing the disaster on the VMAs, all the while wondering if she would actually pull it out. I mean... MTV okayed it, to OPEN their show, so it must be okay, RIGHT?

Heh. Even Spike, who is usually oblivious to my frequent Britney rants, sat here staring at the TV saying, "Uh... what's wrong with her?" "Is she lip synching? Omigod, she doesn't even know the words!!!!" and on and on. I loved the performance - because it was so deliciously MORE awful than I ever could have imagined! Oh Britney, what would I do without you to entertain me??

(I thought Sara Silverman was funny on some things... but not on others. I'm not really liking her much right now)

Overall, I thought the VMAs sucked. Not one video clip in the whole show? Mostly just little bits of performances?

I did love Chris Brown and Rihanna though, the show should have opened with THAT performance, for SURE.

One person I really loved though, was Miss South Carolina - I have enjoyed laughing at her the last couple weeks, but when you go on television and make fun of yourself - in a very delicious, spot-on parody - I have to love you. Congrats Miss SC - that was awesome.

I am getting ready soon to write a real entry about the cruise, but I've been busy. I'll be getting to it soon though, promise. Also, I am behind on SEVERAL emails and I hope you forgive me.
:-D

Not sick!

Yayy! I opened my eyes this morning and instantly knew that I was all better. What a relief!!! I went to school this morning and all was well, and now I just got to work. I called Scott and the way here and guess what... he had the same thing! So I guess we ate something bad. We both were sick by Monday evening - we had had scallop and prawn tacos the night before, which I think is too much time between getting sick, or we went out to breakfast Monday. We didn't eat the same thing though, so either it was the tacos, or they cooked our breakfast in the same bacteria-ridden pan. We've eaten at both places many times before, so whatever it was just a fluke - and we are just both glad to be well again.

So now I happily start work, and then go home and study study study!

sick sick sick

I'm on day 2 of my third stomach virus since May. This sucks. Yesterday I was able to cope with lots of pepto bismol, but then I was up again all last night, only got 2 hours of sleep, and ended up in bed all day today. I hate being sick.

WEEEEEEEEEE, it's not so hot today!!!

Spent a lovely weekend in Aptos!! It was especially nice because it's generally 10 degrees cooler - no heatwave there!

Friday evening we ate dinner at Aqui's before driving over to Aptos. Saturday we went to the coffee shop, then Scott went to visit his daughter and I stayed home reading and reading and reading, for Shakespeare and Mythology.

Sunday Scott had kung fu classes all day so I took my books to the BEACH! WHOOOOOO, I need to study that way more often! And guess what, I saw DOLPHINS!!! And SEALS!

I have seen dolphins swim by at the beach before, but much further away. If anyone reading this knows where the "cement ship" is, that's where I was, and the dolphins were swimming by just at the end of the cement ship. But I have NEVER seen seals swimming all around where people are. I have seen them all over the rocks in Monterey, but never in Santa Cruz. But Sunday one came up about five feet from the sand, stuck his head out of the water and just looked at us all for a while! Then I saw a different one swimming down the beach, stopping every so often to look at the swimmers, and then later there was a group of FIVE seals that all popped their heads up to watch us! It was amazing - and something so few people get to see, I felt really lucky to be able to see such a sight.

That evening we went to El Palomar for scallop and prawn tacos, and margaritas, and SO YUMMY MOJITOS!!! Omigosh, believe it or not I have only had a mojito made once from a mix - this one was very hand made from scratch, and it was possibly the most delicious thing I have ever drank. YUMMMMMM.

Then we went to the theater to see "War", and let me save you $10 - This movie was crap. I love Jason Statham, and Scott loves Jet Li... but the movie was crap.

This morning we watched "The Painted Veil" on DVD - now THAT was a good movie. I never would have picked it myself, but I really loved it.
Then we had a great breakfast at the Red Apple Cafe... and then I had to come home. However, the heat wave seems to be over (WOOOOO)! It is still very warm, but just regular hot, not stupid hot.

Okay, that's enough for now. Tomorrow - School and work, yay. Heh.
