Hmm

So yesterday I opened up a Savings Account... something I didn't have before because there was nothing to save... and I had to put my money into all these different areas, CDs and savings, and high interest accounts, blah blah blah... and this is not even including the bulk of the inheritance which the Financial/Investment Person (whatever he's called) will go over with me next month...

And this morning I checked my online bank account and see I've already earned, on one day with only a tiny portion of the inheritance, several dollars interest. So I calculated the lowest interest rate I would get with all the money...

And I'm going to earn more than $10,000 a year in interest.

And I just about started crying. For reals.

Because... Wha- ?

Also... as nice as this is now - and sort of non-real and unbelievable - why is it so easy for rich people to earn money but when you have none there is virtually no way to get some? Why should I be able to just sit here and earn money in my bank doing nothing but a couple years ago I was sending the kids to neighbors' houses to eat dinner?

It's a very strange feeling.

And for the record, yes, I've already donated mucho dollars to my own favorite charities. And I'll continue to do so. If you think I'll ever forget where I used to be, well, you haven't been reading very long.

ATTENTION

I interrupt Christmas Eve to tell you all:

If you have not yet seen Little Miss Sunshine, go out and rent it IMMEDIATELY.
This has to be one of my very favorite movies of all time right now, and so wrongly named.
I certainly had no intention of seeing any movie called Little Miss Sunshine, but when I gave in and actually saw it... FANTASTIC. It's not a smarmy little sunshiney movie at all, but it is terrifically funny, and sad, and poignant, and real, and finally, at the end, so stupendously hilarious.

That is all. Go back to opening your presents.

And the semester is OVER.

All finished. I may get all A's. Or I may get all B's after the stupid finals we were put through, heh. At this point, it seems that all the students including me have a horrible cold and my Spanish final was filled with sniffling, snuffling students AND teacher, all of us variously running to the bathroom to blow our noses. My buddy Jacob actually went to the bathroom to throw up, poor guy, and then CAME BACK to finish his final! Crazy cutie-pie...

I signed all papers for the estate today. I now have massive amounts of money in my bank account and something called "investments", HAHAHAHAHAH. Whoever would have thunk. I figured these things called "investments" were safer than money in a bank account since I have no idea how to take care of more than $25 at a time. HAH!

So I am done, with everything, and I am still miserable with a cold (this is a running streak, right? Don't I always get sick the last week of finals??), and I am tired and don't want to read ANY books, and just want to take a six week long nap and maybe watch some movies. I don't even want to write in the journal yet.

I'm watching Idlewild right now... and I'm sorely disappointed. I love the singing and dancing and music, but the in between actual storyline makes little to no sense.

For those of you who listen to podcasts on iTunes, check out Scene Unseen - I love that podcast, the guys are intelligent and give great reviews, and their voices are sooooo soooothinggggg.... yeah, I'm tired and sick and need to go to bed now.

Buffy's opinion:

Buffy came home and I asked her to look at my ring, and she didn't want to - you know, she's "too busy" to stop and pay attention to me now - but I insisted and she came over and looked and - "Ohmigod Mom, that's HECKA pretty!!!!"

:-D
She likes it!

I HAVE MY RING!!!

So my ring was ready early, and there was a mix-up on what Scott would have to pay because since they don't make this ring any more the jeweler had to call the company to get a price but they were closed the day we were there (the day after Thanksgiving) so the jeweler told Scott it would not cost more than this other similar ring, but then when it was ready it turns out it actually cost 50% more than we were quoted. But the jeweler had written on Scott's receipt that it wouldn't cost more than X dollars, so they couldn't charge him more. So that was good for Scott, and also pretty exciting, because I guess the ring is pretty expensive.

So, it turns out my camera phone takes incredibly HORRIBLE pictures of small detail, so you can go to Flickr and see my ring HERE but you won't be able to see it too well. I'm going to have Buffy take a picture later and hopefully you'll be able to see it better.

I love it. I love it because it isn't a ring that every woman would look at and think is beautiful. I love it because there is no diamond. I love it because it is exactly what I wanted and it is a ring that *I* love and it's a ring that looks beautiful on ME. And I mostly love it because Scott gave it to me because he wanted to give it to me.

Finished my first semester of Big Girl School

Today was the official last day of classes.
Now we're in "Final Prep Time" or whatever.
I have a 12 page paper due next Friday,
And a Spanish Final at 7:15 that morning.

It appears that these will be my grades:

Writing Workshop = A
Spanish 1A = A
The Short Story = A-
History of Women in the US = B+/A-

If I turn in a good paper to history I'll have an A.
Not sure how I pulled those grades off, but... there ya go.

Next semester:

Spanish 1B = 5 units
Spanish 4B = 3 units
Archaeology: Reconstructing Lost Civilizations = 3 units
European Literature: From Homer to Dante = 3 units
Weight Training = 1 unit

Total: 15 units

Obviously I am still insane.
