Busy weekend

Well I did manage to accomplish some things.

I finished Color of Magic.

I watched Wilde - which I didn't like or at least I fell asleep and didn't care to bother with the end.

I watched the Worst of American Idol which was okay but got tiring without some good singing to break it up.

Went to church.

Went to the gym both days.

Bought lots of Weight Watchers cookbooks and vegetarian magazines - because I love those.

Finished my biography homepage for one of my internet classes.

Spoke with the professor of my English Lit class who is going to let me take it online even though it's an in-class class.

Whew. I didn't manage to clean up anything, but that is quite an impressive list, eh?

Yes I know it's after midnight - so what

So I have decided, at 12:30 AM, that this weekend my goal will be to finish one of my Terry Pratchett books (Color of Magic), come close to finishing another(Good Omens), go to the gym, and watch as much "Worst of American Idol" as I can.

Basically, be a bum.

Oh, and Dukes of Hazzard did indeed suck. But I had to know for myself.
Jessica Simpson... just... No.
And hey Jessica, Johnny Knoxville looks JUST LIKE your husband so why bother...
What, I'm trying to convince her to stay with poor Nick? Nick, pack your bags and run like hell and be happy you got out when you did. Marry a nice girl and have a good life. Be thankful.
Love,
A Longtime Jessica Hater

Oh yeah, my most important goal this weekend is to sleep in as long as possible tomorrow morning since it will be the last day I have to sleep in until June. A week from today I'll be in a FREAKING SWIMMING POOL, in FEBRUARY, at 7am. I'm a lunatic.

But I'm a lunatic who got an A in Statistics.

Wanna see my ring to-be?

To switch subjects entirely, FINALLY...

Wanna see the ring I'm going to get?
It's going to be like one of these...

That's the kind I have wanted for many many many years but never thought I would have someone who I would want to give me a ring. Finally I have the right person, and he wants to get me whatever ring I want. Maybe I'll get one with a diamond, maybe not, but it will be that kind of band.

:-D

My wierd grading voodoo

I have been waiting ALL. DAY. LONG for my Statistics grade (and I'm sure you have too so you'll never have to hear about it ever again...

So FINALLY the grades were posted so I went and checked the score for my Final first...

And I got a 92%. An *A*.

I about died laughing.

So of course, my grade in the class is...

An A.

And that's the end of Statistics.

I want it to end already!!!

Still no grade!!!

AAAARGHHHHHH

Friday Questions from Meg

What is your reaction to waking up and seeing snow? Well, I live in San Jose, so my reaction would probably be... "What the hell???"
What's your favorite dessert to order out? to make at home? I like different things from different places. I like tiramisu, chocolate anything, things with berries, and always - ice cream. At home - ice cream.
Do you file your taxes early or late? Early
Do you usually get a big refund? If so, what do you do with it? Usually a couple thousand, and we usually buy things we've gone without all year - like underwear, haha. But no more!!!
How do you handle your bills? Are you really organized, really laid back or somewhat in between. Describe. Now that we have money I pay them the instant they come in. Bill come in, Bill go out.
How important is money in terms of your happiness? A lot is not important. Having ENOUGH is important and relieves so much stress. Money may not buy happiness, but you certainly need enough to pay bills.
What did your parents teach you about money? Unfortunately, not much. I think they though sheltering us from what they went through was helping us. Not really.
What do you wish your parents had taught you about money? Um, how to budget, save, make enough, the evils of credit cards.
What are your plans for the weekend? NO SCHOOLWORK, going to the gym, reading, watching movies, sewing, cleaning house. Or maybe I'll just be a bum.
bonus question. Jimbo and Megs want to go away for an extended weekend somewhere within driving distance and not too much money (but nice!). Where do you suggest? I suggest they drive their butts back to California so I can see them like I wanted to but didn't get to last time.

Movie Lists!

So let's get started with some non-school talk, shall we?

I rented "Orlando" the other day, because I have to read the book for school (okay, so I mentioned the "S" word) and I have to say,

That is the DULLEST movie ever. I hope the book is better, I really do.

But then I rented Run Lola Run yesterday... and I loved it! WOOOOO! Run, Lola, Run! Keep running! Faster! Further! I loved it. I loved it so much. I want to be Lola.

Okay, well, the Lola with the $100,000 and no dead bodies, not any of the other Lola's.

And for this weekend I have:

Wilde
Like Water for Chocolate
The Dukes of Hazzard (shut up)
The Worst of American Idol (shut up again, you know I don't have TV)

So... it should be an interesting movie weekend. Hey, I have a range there at least, right? A Variety. I am well rounded.

Heee.

Happy Friday!

Okay I updated the journal but I don't have my Statistics grade yet - it will be posted some time this afternoon and I'll let you all know as soon as I know, okay? Okay.

Also, I owe some of you emails, you know who you are, and I'm not ignoring you I just need to take email time later.

Talk here later!

Posted by Pischina at 10:08 AM | Comments (0)

and then you'll never hear "Statistics" from me again.

10am today, in three more hours, I take my Statistics Final.
If I fail it I may get a C in the class. If I get more than half right I may get a B.
I don't think I'm going to hold on to my A.

"You ALWAYS say that, 'Oh poor me I'm going to FAIL' and then you get an A+!" said my co-worker.

Okay, but this time I have an 8 out of 30 on my practice midterm. It's not like I know the answers this time, I REALLY DON'T GET IT.

But all I need is a C. A C in this class puts me into the University. So let's get this over with.

Good news so far

Okay, I don't feel sick this morning! Yayyyy!

oh, but could someone hand Itsy a towel please, she's dripping all over...

blog update

I updated the journal. Now I update here.
I am not feeling good.
I mean, emotionally I feel fine - Finally.
But physically, I think I feel like crap.
You know how you feel like crap the day before you get sick?
How it starts out just feeling kind of tired and relaxed, then quickly escalates to antsy and irritable, then you start biting the heads off your children?
No?
Well that's how I feel at the moment.
But emotionally, I really do feel so much better. I got the loop to stop. It may start up again, I don't know, but so far, so good. Over 24 hours now, and still no film of October 21 going over and over and over.
So that's good.
These last couple days of Statistics are killing me.
I still have at least a 92%.
But I'm not clear on a lot in this last chapter, and there's lots to do before the Thursday morning final.
But the thought that by noon on Thursday I will be finished will ALL my General Education classes...
That I only have a few measly english classes and a swimming class, basically for fun, that in about 122 days I'll be graduating, that really makes me happy.
But for now, concentrate on Statistics.

Stupid Charleen went to Ireland on business without reminding me.
We work at the same company and I hardly ever get to see her.
But we talk on the phone more often. So that's good.
But not when she's in Ireland.

I want Cinequest to start already.
And I want Charleen to give me the days off that I want off when I tell her I want them off, dammit.
I mean, I love you Charleen.

Did I mention that I stuck Itsy's head in the toilet? But only for a minute.

I need to go to bed. I hope I feel well in the morning because I have too much work and homework to do.

Posted by Pischina at 10:15 PM | Comments (0)

Still have an A, 6 days to go!

Test Scores are in!

I got a 96% on my midterm yesterday!
That means I now have a 94.5% in the class, and blah blah blah I stuck Itsy's head in the toilet blah blah blah Stastics!

WOOOOOO!

On the bright side, if you break up with him you'll have more material for your next great album

Alanis, every time you come singing sweetly over my Launchcast at work my heart swells with love for you, but I still cannot forgive you for going to the Golden Globes looking like this. It's going to take me a long time to get over this, obviously.

Of course, I blame the man in your life.

Pischina is:

I stole this from Catie, and mine came out almost too embarrassing to post here, but on the other hand, it's going to make Charleen laugh so hard she'll pee her pants, so therefore I have to share it:

Ten Top Trivia Tips about Pischina!

  1. Apples are covered with a thin layer of Pischina.
  2. All gondolas in Venice must be painted black unless they belong to Pischina!
  3. Pischina is the largest of Saturn's moons.
  4. Pischina is actually a fruit, not a vegetable.
  5. The average human spends about 30 days during their life in Pischina.
  6. During severe windstorms, Pischina may sway several feet to either side.
  7. Pischina can clean her ears with her tongue, which is over thirty-nine inches long.
  8. It is impossible to fold Pischina more than seven times!
  9. The condom - originally made from Pischina - was invented in the early 1500s!
  10. It took Pischina 22 years to build the Taj Mahal.

127 days? WOW.

My second midterm for Statistics is in 90 minutes. Last night I finally achieved an A on the practice midterm (we get graded on the practice midterm but can retake it over and over up until the real test). This section was a little more difficult, but when I realized last night that I had accidentally switched formulas between two different types of equations, that was the difference between a C and an A. I think I can earn an A today too - but I'll be happy with a B. (well, not really, I want an A!)

Countdown until I'm finished with Statistics: 7 more days
Countdown until I'm in the pool at 7am: 17 more days
Countdown until the graduation ceremony: 127 more days

I'll need a new glasses perscription soon

I have never been reading so many books, mostly non-school related, all at the same time. I just have too many really good books that I want to read, and I start looking at them, then I start paging through them, and then... I'm halfway finished.

This is going to be a productive reading year I think.

Posted by Pischina at 10:13 AM | Comments (0)

FYI:

I need a nap.

Posted by Pischina at 9:40 AM | Comments (0)

Dump stupid Ryan if he made you do this to yourself!!!

Oh Alanis, why hast thou forsaken us???
Why the bleached 70's style hair???
Why the top that makes you look topless?
And tell me, PLEASE, that that's not a boob job I'm looking at...

Don't worry, we still love you... but fix that please... the hair, the... dress, all of it.

Boring for 2 more weeks

I realize the only thing I've written about recently is my Statistics class. I'm just sort of immersed in it and not thinking of much else - except the gym, which is good.
By the way, why is it I have GAINED 2 pounds since New Years?
Never you worry, that will come off SOME how.
Anyway.
Second midterm this Thursday, and the Final is the next Thursday and then I'm done.
And then we can get back to the life I've given up the last 1-1/2 years as my school load finally dies down and I get ready to graduate.
It's all going to be worth it in the end, right?
Yeah, I think so.

I got a 92% on my Statistics midterm!!!

Total score for the first third of class: 93.5%

COCOBOLO-COCOBOLO-COCOBOLO three times fast!!!

I just typed up an email using the word "COOOOOL" and when it spell-checked it stopped at that word, of course, but suggest this in replacement:

COCOBOLO

And I'm like, Whu - ?

But then I looked it up on Dictionary.com, and sure enough, it is a word!

I just thought that was funny.

The New Book List for Spring Semester

The book list is up for my Lesbian/Gay/Bi/Trans Literature course and it's a BIG one!
Here is what I have to read for this class, which starts January 30:

Funny Boy Shyam Selvadurai
Laramie Project Moises Kaufman
Lost Language of Cranes David Leavitt
Orlando Virginia Woolf
Penguin Book of Gay Short Stories
Penguin Book of Lesbian Short Stories
Rubyfruit Jungle Rita Mae Brown
Stone Butch Blues Leslie Feinberg

I am pretty excited about this list, it's going to be a very interesting semester!

Posted by Pischina at 7:58 AM | Comments (0)

GPA did not suffer

And so I finished the Fall semester, the worst semester ever in my entire life, with a 3.545 gpa.

English Literature A
InterPersonal Communications A
Algebra II B

I was afraid I was going to get a D in Algebra II (which means I would have to take it over - and wouldn't be qualified to have Statistics right now) because I never opened the last two chapters, didn't turn in the homework for them, and I definitely had to have received an F on the Final because I had no idea how to work half of the problems.
Granted, I had an A up to that point, but my calculations showed me earning a very hopeful C.

Sometimes I wonder about how teachers grade. Not that I'm complaining. But I really do question some of my grades sometimes.

Posted by Pischina at 7:51 AM | Comments (0)

She's lost her damn mind

Now I have a 94% in Statistics.
And I'm seriously worried about myself for how much I absolutely love this class.
I could do these problems all day long.
I wish I had taken the semester long class so I could do more.

Somebody smack me, Please!

Preliminary Celebration

Okay, for the first third of my Statistics class I have:
100% on Homework
80% on practice Midterm

Who's the Boss? *I'M* the Boss!!!

I'll have you all know that I kicked Statistics Ass all over the place last night.

I still don't get part of it, but I finished half the first unit (in one night!) and it's not due until Thursday.
So I think I will have time to figure it out, and once I started the work it didn't seem like that much.
It may turn out that I actually lucked out taking this intersession online class.

Posted by Pischina at 9:40 AM | Comments (0)

Certifiably Insane

First of all, Itsy, you ATTEMPTED to read "Handmaid's Tale"? Spankings!!! Why do I feel like I'm talking to my kids here?? READ IT. Jeez, I was in high school when I read it and she's a damn CANADIAN writer so it's even in your own language!
;-)

Second of all: Statistics is going to KICK MY ASS. Omigod I am so lost already. LOOooOoooOOOOost.
Four months of class crammed into 3 weeks of class. I must have been crazy to attempt this.
However, I WILL pass it.
My first midterm? Thursday.

Third of all: There is no third. Who has time for thirds when you've registered for Intersession Statistics???

Posted by Pischina at 3:38 PM | Comments (0)

The start of 3 weeks of H, E, Double Hockey Sticks

Today is the day.
From 3pm to 5pm I will be at orientation for...

S-T-A-T-I-S-T-I-C-S

DUN DUN DUNNNNNN!!!!!!!

My last math class, my last class needed to graduate, my last non-English class.

Three weeks of concentrated hell, and then it's finally over!

Signed and sealed with a Kiss

Okay, so here is the deal we made - more details in the journal:

1. We're gonna keep going for another five years
2. We're not going to talk marriage until that five years is up
3. I get a ring in the next six months.

A ring! Yay! A ring! I've told him over and over but I don't think he realizes it, that ring will keep me happy for the next 20 years. That's all I want, some outward sign showing that I am taken.

Gym talk

Forgot to tell ya'll I went to the gym yesterday, ran for 15 minutes, lifted 32,000 pounds, and then rode the bike for 20.

OH, but I also forgot to tell you the terms of my and Scott's new relationship contract, didn't I! HAH! Okay, hold on, let me put that in a separate item, be right back...

Comments on this year's books.

Ok, that was actually an error to have the book list be here, it's an old list that I keep under the link on the right - "What am I reading?". I switched the date on it, and now here it is, heh. But you can always check that link, it is the one thing in my life that I ALWAYS keep up to date.

Okay, so Megs asked what were my favorites. Many from the list were read for school, but also most were good.

Beloved - you all must read.
Cannery Row and Sweet Thursday - you all should read.
Handmaid's Tale - you all better read.
For Matrimonial Purposes - very good, very interesting, very sweet. Girls will like it.
Time Traveler's Wife - One of my top ten all time favorites. I sobbed through it.
Secret Life of Bees - I really liked it, but I've met many who have not. I recommend giving it a try.

And personally I loved all the Dan Brown and Terry Pratchett books. Terry Pratchett is a British writer who does good satire, some will love him, some won't get it. But I love him. However he wrote a book called "Good Omens" with Neil Gaiman which is one of the FUNNIEST books by far and in my top ten all time favorites.

John Irving is one of my favorite authors, but he bombed with "Until I Find You". Do NOT waste your time.

So that's it, my recommendations from 2005. And now we are off to 2006!

I'm glad we have no trees by our house

Good lord, what happened in San Jose while I was in Aptos last night???

Aptos is nice, quiet, a little rainy here and there...

I drive into San Jose and am greeted by a freeway COVERED WITH PINE TREES (Highway 17 at Hamilton) like driving over a carpet of Christmas Trees and branches - CRAZY. Then I get into San Jose and every road has trees lying in the middle of it, branches, trees, debris, trees in yards, a huge tree at Red Lobster all uprooted with half their landscaping, fences down... I 've never seen anything like it.

Good job Mother Nature, you lived up to your reputation this time. ;-)

Meanwhile, I'm glad we don't own our backyard fence, heh. Plus, it fell into the neighbor's side.
