More Friday Fun!

Friday Five!

1] What are your favorite autumn foods and beverages?
Hmmm... Maybe soup... and stew... What the heck are Autumn foods?

2] Do you have any fun things planned for this fall, such as attending an autumn festival, going apple picking, hosting a Halloween party, etc.? No, but I'm hoping to buy a car, and that's about all the fun I can handle.

3] What has your autumn weather been like so far? Is fall your favorite season? What is your area's autumn weather typically like? How long has it been Fall? It's still in the 80's here, but cooler at night. Yay. I like the Fall.

4] What will you be doing for Thanksgiving this year? Do you usually have a traditional one [turkey, mashed potatoes, cranberries], or do you eat out or fix a nontraditional menu on Thanksgiving Day? I'm not really sure, because we have always gone to my mom's house where she made dinner all by herself, but this will be the first Thanksgiving since my dad died. This will be tough one.

5] Some people start Christmas shopping in October. Do you? NO. I start shopping about two weeks before Christmas.

I picked a great class

Ya know what, every time I think about that email from my algebra teacher I feel this huge weight come off my shoulders. A whole page of notes! Front and back! How can you fail with that???

Posted by Pischina at 2:43 PM | Comments (0)

Maybe I'll get straight A's after all...

I just got an email from my Algebra II teacher, for the mid term she is allowing the use of a calculator AND a whole page of notes, written on both sides!

Now that's a load off MY mind!

Well, it's SORT of what you wanted...

Itsy, look at this.

Updates

Me not doing my Spanish homework for two nights in a row.

Yeah, mean and forceful, that's how I like em

Okay, now that Martha Stewart that we saw today?
Was a Martha I could live with.
Well, on my television screen.

By the way, television is still difficult to get used to. The first advertisement that came on I was all "What the -? What happened to... Oh don't tell me I have to wai- ???" and then me trying to hit the pause button everytime *I* wanted to take a break.

Jeez, television is just too hard I tell you.

I Heart Donald Trump

And George and especially Carolyn.
And that is all I have to say.

Oh, and also: BYE BYE MELISSA!!!!!!

Personal Letter:

To Catie,
I totally thought of you while watching Martha, and figured you probably were a big fan... but I still didn't like her... and I think you would totally disapprove of her handwriting too.

As for the mailman, I totally suspected him myself. Except that even Netflix is no longer estimating the arrival at 2 days anymore, the expected arrival is now 6-7 days after they mail it. So now I'm suspecting Netflix of just being a bunch of lazy asses.

Love,
Pischina

P.S. I don't want to get TiVo or I'll get sucked into watching TV all the time again. No TV. TV is evil. Except for Donald Trump. And Jeff Probst, but I don't get his channel.

Posted by Pischina at 12:01 PM | Comments (0)

Wah Wah Wah...

While I'm on a roll with complaining...

Netflix has been taking over a week to send me my movies. I get six movies at a time Folks, but last week I only had one movie for two days, and then went an entire week before receiving ONE. At this point I have four. It's been ten days and I only have FOUR of my six movies. This has suddenly been going on for the last two weeks and I'm getting pissed off. As soon as I get my Britney/Kevin TV Show DVD I'm putting my movies back to 3 at a time. No use paying extra money if I don't have any DVDs to show for it.

Posted by Pischina at 10:29 AM | Comments (0)

Just in time

Oh, and also? I totally caved to the lure of Martha Stewart Apprentice and managed to hook up an antenna to the TV so I could get that channel, and you know what?

Marth Stewart is a big giant phony dork. And what's with the letter writing at the end? Good gracious. Like any real boss does that when they fire someone. And if my boss did send me a note? I would hope it was professionally typed and not scribbled in that scrabble that is her handwriting.

Also? Advertisements suck, and it sucks that I can't pause TV like I can a dvd. I have been spoiled without TV, folks.

But I did turn it off as soon as Martha was over, and I'll only have it on tonight during The Apprentice. TV pretty much sucks, really.

If it looks like a crackwhore, and snorts like a crackwhore, it's probably...

I find it odd and a bit hypocritical that companies who hired Kate Moss to pose in photos and ads where she appears to be some kind of spaced out crackwhore are now "shocked" and "saddened" to "find out" that she may actually BE a crackwhore.

It's okay to LOOK like one, and it's okay to use images of a crackwhore to sell millions of dollars of your product, it's just not okay to be caught actually snorting the stuff up your nose.

And don't think that I'm a Kate Moss fan, because I am NOT. I just am having a difficult time figuring out what these companies think they're accomplishing by firing her, or do they just think they're fooling us?

Yes, curves are good

I love Catie so much.

I'm a real commuter now...

The freeway I use to go to work is having construction done on it for the next two years, so I decided to take the light rail train to work today. It took me an hour to drive to the lot, walk to the train, take the train, and walk to work - vs. 30-40 minutes driving the entire way - but I save gas and get to sit and read or study on the train for 30 minutes. The drive home is at least 45 minutes long, so even though it will be longer, I'll still have that 30 minutes study time. And it's pretty relaxing just sitting there while someone else drives.

It costs $1.75 for each trip, but that's close to the gas I use anyway. And my car will not be sitting on the freeway for 30 minutes in the evening.

School

As for good news, I haven't completed even one week of school and I'm finished with my Communications homework, finished with the first two chapters of Spanish, and finished with the first three chapters of Algebra. Those last two classes, though they have deadlines, they are also self paced - I can go way ahead if I want. The Algebra teacher even said she's had students who finished the whole class in ten weeks! I think I'm going to slow down with it eventually, but I'm glad I get this chance to get ahead now since I have Scott's surgery to deal with next week.

And now we're off to church.

My mom

Well yesterday when Spike and I went to help my mom with some stuff she was finally dressed in every day clothes and seemed to be better. I need to write an actual entry about this because this week has not been nice. I don't want my mom to be sick. But I'm about to face the fact that she is, very much so. It is wierd though, a couple days before she got sick I was visiting her and thinking how much older she suddenly looked. Like she had aged ten years since my dad died in May. And now this.

I hope this isn't going to be "one of those years". Those years you don't ever, ever want to repeat.

Second class down, two to go...

Went to Algebra II today, and I think I'm going to do really really well thanks to that study book I used all summer long. It appears that book went into much of Intermediate Algebra too, because there is not much in my book that I haven't been over at least a little during the summer.

So that's the last of my hard classes, - it's going to be a piece of cake I think. Famous last words.

Saturday is Spanish, but I have my books and I took it in high school and I'm pretty familiar with everything there too. So my two hardest classes will actually be more review than anything.

My english teacher emailed me today and said the private English Lit class is getting set up for me right now. So it's a Go, and that means...

I'll still be graduating with an AA in English in the Spring.

Wow.

Movie Recommendation Alert!!

I rented "Crash" yesterday.
You should rent it too.
That's all I'm going to say.

Or... if you already saw it, tell me what you thought. I give it an A+.

First Class, ready for my A

Okay I went to Interpersonal Communications last night. I really liked the teacher even though several students walked out as they realized she was going to force us to do actual work and challenge us to actually learn and had *gasp* high expectations for us.

Bring it ON, Teacher.

I'm going to have a good time in that class.

Next up: Algebra on Thursday

Fine, Mom, DON'T tell me

So here I am back at the school library computer center. I'm waiting for class to start, but also looking up Crohn's Disease because I was just informed by my aunt on the phone on the way to school that my mother has it pretty badly and it's "pretty serious" but "don't worry... too much." But my mom is so weak she cannot talk on the phone or she'd just pass out. Great.

Whatever, Aunty. Jeez.

And what a great way to start off another school year.

By the way, I just dropped $330 at the book store and I don't even have all my books. Thank God I get that fee waiver, or I'd be over $400 MORE in the hole.

No wonder we were always starving last year.

Posted by Pischina at 5:22 PM | Comments (0)

School, WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

School starts at 6pm!!!
I'll be sitting in my Interpersonal Communications class!

And now movies...

David Lynch lover that I am, I watched Mulholland Drive last night, forgetting that I had tried to watch it a couple years ago and couldn't get through it.

I did better this time, I got through it at least.

But good gawd, he over David-Lynched himself with this one, didn't he? I had to look it up on the internet this morning just to see what the hell that movie was about. I mean, 2 hours of watching these characters trying to figure out who the amnesia girl is, and then suddenly everyone has a different name and is playing a different character. WHAT-e-ver.

I mean, I get it now, after reading an explanation on IMDB. But should a movie really make you work THAT hard to figure out what is going on?

I will say, it creeped me the hell out even though I didn't know what was going on. I was well and truly scared, and that doesn't happen often - David Lynch does have a knack for that though.

Anyway, do I recommend it? No. But if anyone else out there has seen it, I would be interested in hearing what YOU thought of it.

Old TV Shows

For all you poor Canadians who weren't able to watch Popular, it was a TV series back in 1999-2000. It followed the popular vs. non-popular students in an almost slapstick-y but serious way, kind of in the "Freaks and Geeks" vein. You can Netflix both seasons that aired. Some of the shows are all right, some are fantastic, and some are just hilarious.

Buffy loves the Mary Cherry character - just an annoying afterthought character in the beginning of the show, but she evolves into a hilarious character.

I love the Nicole Julian character, played by Melissa Etheridge's current girlfriend, Tammy Lynn Michaels. She plays one of the mean popular girls, but she does it in such a way that you just cannot hate her - or you just want to love her AND hate her. Personally, I just want to kiss her. Heh.

Anyway, Canadians and Americans who missed out - it's not a bad show. Netflix it if you never saw it, you may enjoy it.

All squeaky clean now...

Scott just now took his very first shower since the night before his surgery!

Yay for showers!

That is something you definitely miss when you can't have them.

Posted by Pischina at 8:38 PM | Comments (0)

It's the Weekend!!!!!!

But aside from that, I am cuddled up on Scott's couch here in Aptos, with the wireless laptop in my lap, and a blanket over my legs. Sci-Fi Friday is on, and Scott is in the shower. And I am loving that I have three days off.

Happy Labor Day Everyone!

The Gas Bandits

I can't believe what crummy pictures my camera-phone takes, but what that is supposed to be is just a gas sign showing $3.09 for regular. But then I passed the Safeway Gas Station this evening and it was $3.19 for regular. C-R-A-Z-Y. Like B-A-N-A-N-A-S. Which, you know what? Is a dumb song.

Anyway, I am even happier that I *only* paid $2.99 for gas yesterday. This is some stupid stupid shit I tell you.

Pre-Planning the Good Grade Party

Okay, per Catie's comment, if I manage to pull a B or higher in Algebra II, there will be some drunken happiness one evening soon after. Ya'll are pre-invited.

Don't be surprised if I speak Spanish after a few drinks.

Alreaddyyyyyyyyy

Guess what? Remember how Scott is doing so well so the surgeon was going to schedule his next surgery soon?

It's going to be on September 14. Yeah, like 12 days from now.

On the one hand, it's pretty scary to go through it all over again, on the other hand I'm glad it's going to ALL be over with so soon. Scott's pretty happy too.

First day, New semester, Almost here

I'm on page 182 in my Algebra book, and it ends on around page 300 (with a whole bunch of word problems). Algebra II starts Thursday September 8. AAAAAAAAAIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!

I can do it I can do it I can do it...

And this Tuesday my first class, Interpersonal Communications, starts. So soon? I thought I had another week before classes start!

Bloody Robbers is what they are

I went to the gas station yesterday and paid $2.99 a gallon for regular unleaded. It cost me $50 to get 16 gallons of gas.

And I was thrilled with $2.99 because all the stations on the way home were selling gas for $3.09 per gallon.

That's just WRONG, Folks.

Popular

I should have figured Lanie would know that Buffy was talking about the cast of Popular. Brooke McQueen, Sam McPerson, Harrison, Nicole, Mary Cherry - all from Popular. I give 100 points to Lanie for that.
Buffy LOVES the character of Mary Cherry - and I love Nicole. Love LOVE Nicole. A Lot. A LOT lot.

Heh.

Healing faster

So Scott went to see the surgeon today, first time since surgery. Yesterday he went to physical therapy - did I tell you about that already? Anyway, because it's Kaiser hospital and the only people who EVER seem to know what they are doing are the surgeons and the nurses who work for them, Scott left physical therapy very depressed - haven't seen him like that since right before the surgery. I swear to God, for all that I love their surgeons, I cannot stand anyone else who works for Kaiser. (Did I ever mention that the day of surgery they checked him in under a completely different patient's name? Yeah...) Anyway, he saw his actual surgeon today, and HE told Scott that on a scale of 1 - 10...

Scott is a 12. And that he's doing great and should keep on doing whatever he can, and that he'll schedule the next surgery for as soon as possible. Which is good, because the sooner this whole thing is over the better, for everyone. So Scott is a little happier today, and my mom is giving him my dad's old stationary bike so Scott can work out a little and that makes him happy too.

*whew*
