Netflix update

Okay, I'm still watching episodes of "The L Word", which is, okay, not the very greatest show, but different enough to warrant watching. Plus, Jennifer Beals.

Monsters Inc. LOVED it!!! ALMOST as much as Finding Nemo, but pretty close. Wow, again, had no interest in the movie when it was in theaters, but there ya go. Loved it.

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. I know I would like it if I sat and watched and read the subtitles. But when I'm at home I just can't sit there and do that. I have to do a million other things at the same time, therefore I have no idea what it was about, and no interest in trying again.

Still have In The Bedroom and still trying to finish Princess Mononoke.

Pretty good Quizzy thing:

Borrowed from GoldieKnox who borrowed it from BettyAlready:

Using Mapquest, how many miles is it from your house to your parents' house?

Total Est. Time: 20 minutes Total Est. Distance: 2.19 miles
Since when does it take 20 minutes to drive 2.19 miles??? Well. Not even when you actually follow that blasted 30 mph law throughout the "retirement community" my parents live in does it take me 20 minutes to get to her house. It's two miles away, People.

Google your first and last name, in quotes. How many results were found?

26. Three of them are actually me: One from my job website, and two are racing results (running). Apparently I'm also in the UT Texas Longhorn band, received an Honor's Scholarship to DeVry University, and ran some marathons (NOT!). Also, I'm a second grader who escaped a burning house. I'm thinking you shouldn't name your child after me because people with my name are doomed to have their house burned down, heh.

What room in your house is too small?

I thought and thought, and really? None. It's not a huge house, but it's roomy enough. I guess you could always have a bigger kitchen, yeah, I'd choose a bigger kitchen.

What room is too large?

None. It's not *that* big of a house, eh.

Name of your third grade teacher:

Mr. Pence. Rumor has it he was Gay. I LOVED that man. Even after he made me stand with my nose in the corner for talking. He was one of my favorite teachers EVER.

How much money did you make at your first job?

$3.15 an hour. Just in time for my raise the minimum wage was increased to $3.35. Which my raise equaled. How convenient. (And by the way? I thought I was in the bucks, man. $75 for a week of work? WHOOOOO!)

Favorite donut:

Apple fritter, every time.

Name(s) of your next door neighbor(s):

At the old burned up house, I knew all the neighbors on my street. Here? None. Across the street lives David's grandparents, but I don't know their name. Next door lives a girl Spike went to school with, I don't remember her name. One the other side is a really little girl whose name escapes me. Two house down live the evil girls that Buffy sometimes hang out with. I know their names but won't post them here. Other than those two, I know no one's names. Oh, a cat named Nikki lives across the street and loves to come into my house, does that count?

Genre of music you can't stand:
Anything AC/DC. Sorry AC/DC fans.

Last thing bid on on ebay:

My Environmental Science book.

How much cash is in your wallet:

Cash? Dude, I only have some quarters left over from the laundromat.

You're FIRED

Okay, looks like they're actually firing who should really be fired this season?
GAWD what a dweeb he was.

And Carolyn - HOW I LOVE YOU!!!!!!!!!

Personally I'd never go back

High School Survey, Borrowed from Mocksie:

You're a freshman. What year is it?
1980 - 1981

What were your three favorite bands?
For all of high school, right? I still loved The Beatles, and as far as bands go, I liked Air Supply and Journey.

What was your favorite outfit?
I loved all my pleated dress pants, and my favorite shirt was a sky blue blouse with tuxedo shirt pleats and a black ribbon around the collar.
Trust me, in 1983 it was cool.

What was up with your hair?

Aqua net, that's what. I got up 90 minutes early just to wash it, blow dry it, and painstakingly curl every single strand of hair back, comb it feathered back to Perfection, and shellaq it with Aqua Net.
Sorry, I don't know how to spell shellaque, whatever.

Who were your best friends?
Charleen and Renee. Sometimes Tricia. That's it as far as best friends.

What did you do after school?
Oh, BAND PRACTICE. And MORE Band Practice. And MORE. And MORE.

Where did you work?
I didn't get a job until I finished high school. As soon as I graduated I got a job at Petrie's clothing store.

Did you take the bus?
Nope, I walked the mile or two carrying a tenor saxaphone the whole way. My junior year I had my license and could drive, except for periods of time after I had wrecked the car/truck.

Who did you have a crush on?
Paul M. Everyone had a crush on Paul M.

Did you fight with your parents?
Fight? Hell no. I had never been hit by them, other than spankings as a small child, but I'm pretty sure I would have been hit if I had talked back as a teenager.

Who did you have a CELEBRITY crush on?
Heh. Michael Jackson. Stop laughing. It was the BLACK Michael Jackson. He was cool. I swear. Stop laughing now.

Did you smoke cigarettes?
Nope, never smoked a cigarette in my life.

Did you lug all of your books around in your backpack all day because you were too nervous to find your locker?
HAH! This is where there's a big difference from when I was in high school. Only dweebs and nerds had backpacks when I was in high school!!! Usually not even THEY were dweeby enough to have a backpack! We ALWAYS used our lockers and carried our books by hand. These days high schools around here don't even provide lockers.

Did you have a 'clique'?
I had lots of cliques, usually organized around band members. Charleen/Renee/Tricia/Jill/Louie. Eric/Robert/Robert/Sherwin. Filipino girls in the library who hid me out when crazy Darlene wanted to kill me for... whatever, I never even LOOKED at her boyfriend, and in that instance it was the truth!

Did you have a "Max" like Zach, Kelly and Slater?
What the hell is this question about???

Admit it, were you popular?
I was probably as popular as a band member gets. I actually was more popular than I wanted to be - I was a quiet, book & music (and boy) loving girl, and I didn't like to be around people ALL THE FREAKING TIME, but wherever I was, there were little geeky boys wanting to sit with me. No, I don't think I was popular. But I was liked well enough.

Who did you want to be just like?
Hmmmm... I kinda liked myself... but I also wanted to be popular like Julie C. who ran cross country and was nice, Valerie who I hated but all the boys somehow thought she had fantastic legs (Whatever!), or Yvette who wasn't really pretty at all but still was wildly popular.

What did you want to be when you grew up?
A musician or a writer.

Tooting a horn for a sec...

I just got my second essay back and I got an A-!!!! Which means combined with my first essay (perfect score) I will definitely get an A in class, unless I've completely bungled my final essays and get F's. No way Dudes and Dudettes, I'll get A's or B's on them and then I rack up another A on my transcript. Whoooo Hooooo!!!!!

Also, the teacher's comment:

" WELL WRITTEN, AND I REALLY LIKE IT WHEN YOU TAKE A CHANCE ON A DIFFICULT TOPIC! GRADE: A- "

Sayonara for a few days...

It's the last week of Winter Session and I have to turn in 2 1500 word essays by Thursday evening, so I will be scarce until then. Have a great week and I will see you all on Friday!

Not a rain cloud in sight

Also, it was really REALLY beautiful and sunny today in Aptos, and I know Catie would have just loved it here. She probably would have loved the movie too, but oh well.
:-)

Alas, No Jay or Silent Bob anywhere in the movie

Scott and I went to the movies today and saw, umm... Curse of the Flying Daggers (???) or something like that. I was in LOVE with the scenery, and can't deny loving an army of women who throw daggers all super cool and all, but I wasn't so loving the rest of the movie. Scott did though, he really loved it. It was just the whole love triangle thing, the fight to the death over the dead woman, the... well, you get the picture.

If you enjoy those Chinese Mythology movies, go for it, you'll love it.

Give me Kevin Smith any day, lol.

Almost time for Spring Semester, WHEEEEE!

I got my Environmental Science book in the mail yesterday. $85 at the book store, $20 on eBay, hahaha. I can't wait to start school again! Okay, I'm still in school, taking English 1B during Intercession, but I can't wait for my next four classes to start!

Book Smarts vs Street Smarts

Okay, LOVED the Apprentice. I'm totally for one of the Street Smart people winning. And I loved everyone! I mean, everyone had their quirks, but it wasn't a group of 15 poeple that you knew were never ever going to set foot in Trump's office and then 3 people who were okay. These were almost all people who are capable intelligent human beings. Hurray!!! Plus... Danny!! Freak!! LOL!

Update on the Life:

Got my Jeep back from that new mechanic, shelled out the $779 total, and the Jeep runs better than it EVER has before! Like a DREAM!!! I am SO happy, even though there is something else wrong with the brake drum, or something like that, but mechanic said it could definitely wait six months, and by that time the Jeep will be paid off and I will hopefully be trading it in.

Went back to the dentist yesterday for my "final impression" for the permanent bridge. Now, I've had braces, I know how long a final impression takes. I was there for almost 3 hours. The first hour was me just sitting and stewing about how this is the most disorganized dentist I've ever been to in my life, and the next two hours were spent in great distress as there was several shots involved, lots of drilling, and two different impressions taken.

Finally, over. I have the temporary bridge back in and feel better now but yesterday was a nightmare. I'm not looking forward to my final appointment in 2 weeks because I'm pretty sure it will involve more shots and to tell you the truth I'm about done with the shots.

No more!!!

Apprentices, Truffles, Whatever

Don't forget, Street Smarts vs Book Smarts The Apprentice starts tonight!!!! I have to quickly write another 1500 word essay before it starts. And I'll be rooting for the Street Smarts crowd. Surprising, since I'm in school? Well, I guess I always go for the underdog. Then again, let's watch tonight before making any decisions. Everyone who watches had better post about it!!!

Did I mention that on my poetry essay I got a 4.0??? That's right, an A+, a PERFECT Score!!! WHOOOOO! Thank you Margaret Atwood for writing that fantastic poem!

Also, how do you spell "rooting"? It seems to me that with that spelling I'd be searching for truffles or something. Hmmmmmm...

Posted by Pischina at 6:14 AM | Comments (0)

And it has a full tank of gas.

Oh yeah, but the good news is, I'm driving the boss's son's truck, heh.

YeeeHAWWW. Heh.

Okay, a truck is not me. But it works, and I am thrilled.

Anyway. Scott loves me. So I have that.

Posted by Pischina at 10:12 PM | Comments (0)

And it wasn't Tony Danza, sighhhhh

So the Jeep was not going to get me to work, nuh uh, no way, no how.

Called the taxi, went to work. Called the tow truck.

$750. Not including taxi ride ($30).

Lovely.

Posted by Pischina at 10:10 PM | Comments (0)

Maybe they'll send Tony Danza... Yeah, right.

So I got up extra early this morning to deal with the Jeep. Buffy and I walked the one mile to the shopping center for every meal over the weekend, totalling up six miles walked. I'm so glad it was sunny and not raining this weekend. We even bought a big-ole-bag of bird seed that Buffy was SO SURE she could get home, but then whined the whole way, carrying the bag on her head part of the way, heee. But she did get it home and the little birdies were fed.

Okay, so anyway, I got up at 5am. This is so I can either:

1. Go out to the car 1/2 hour early and try to start it up, see that it won't work, come back in the house and call a taxi to take me to work.

2. Go out to the car, decide it just might make it to work, get stranded halfway there and then call a taxi to take me to work.

Girls and boys, if you know me at all you know I'll be driving that sucker until it breathes it's last breath.

Then I have to hope the car shop on the corner of work will be open today. Then I walk over at 9am when it opens, tell them to get a tow truck over to the Jeep and fix it pronto, and bitch slap Henry the car man who I already brought the Jeep into three weeks ago and TOLD HIM something was wrong with it and he told me there was NOTHING wrong with it and to come pick it up.

Bastard.

I knew this was his plan, to force me to keep driving it until it completely broke. There I was, for the first time ever in my life, taking the car in at the first sign of something wrong so that it could be fixed before it turned into something major, and Henry just blew that plan all to bits. Now the Jeep engine is almost blown all to bits. Damn Henry!

Okay, rant over. I must get ready so I can be on my way.

Not a good day

So this weekend Spike is out snowboarding, and Buffy and I were going to have a girl's weekend together and go to the coffee shop/bakery in the morning, then go to Target to get her some new black pants so we can go to Scott's niece's 21st birthday party that night, and go to church on Sunday, and blah de blah ain't gonna happen because THE STUPID JEEP IS BROKEN AGAIN!!!

We can walk to the coffee shop, and Scott will take us to the party, but there will be no church and no shopping. Blah.
:-(

I hate when stupid stuff like this happens.

Movies!

Okay, here is my Netflix Movie Update. Please write back with comments and suggestions for more movies:

The First Wives Club is one of my very favorite guilty-pleasure books. I love that book. How could a divorced woman NOT love that book? So I finally rented the movie. And within 15 minutes I had that disc sealed right back up in the Netflix envelope and out on the mailbox. How could they take such a good book and completely destroy it? Bette Midler played the only character remotely faithful to the book (and was wonderful). Ya know, making minor changes is one thing, but to try to re-create the book on completely different characters is a whole 'nother thing. The one thing making the rental worth it: Seeing a very young Victor Garber playing quite a dorky ex-husband.

Waiting to Exhale. ANOTHER waste of time! At least I sat through the entire movie, but GOD. Whitney Houston was terrible, the movie was poorly made. I did like two of the women and Gregory Hines is always A-Okay in my book, but overall it was another waste of 2 hours.

Finding Nemo. I never had any desire to see this in theaters but my kids made me rent it from Netflix. I wish I had seen this in theaters!!! I saw it three times over the weekend and ended up having dreams about Nemo and Dorie. That's when it's time to send the disc back, heh.

Dirty Pretty Things. HATED it. That's all I have to say about that one.

As you can see, we are on a very bad streak. Scott and I did see Meet the Fockers and absolutely loved it. And next on the Netflix list we have:

Get Shorty
Shattered Glass
About Schmidt
Tortilla Soup
Princess Mononoke

Any other suggestions? Or comments on my hatred of your favorite movie? Hee.

"The Knife Incident"

Okay, here is Part One. This is where I thought I made myself very clear on The Rules. Of course, one should never assume that teenagers are clear on the rules, eh? Part Two will come later.

My imaginary friend

Sometimes I know I spend too much time on the computer when I realize I spend a good part of my day wondering what Catie would think if she ever came to my house, and how messy is messy to her, and I wonder what time does she get up in the morning, and Oh, it's sunny outside, Catie will be so happy today!

All this for a woman I've never met.

Oh, and it's almost Kim's birthday - you know, the Kim who sometimes is around and sometimes is not, and she better reappear soon so we can all wish her a happy birthday. Another woman I've never met who I worry about all the time. Also, haven't heard from Angel since before Christmas. Some people better post something very very soon.

Okay, tell me what YOU think:

Posted by Pischina at 6:38 AM | Comments (0)

Kids! Kids Kids Kids!!! I hate them!!!!!!

Okay, Alias? Well that was totally boring last night, at least *I* thought so. Buffy and I could hardly stay awake the last hour.

Speaking of Buffy... oh God she's a teenager now... worse than you could ever imagine... time to call the nunnery...

Oh yeah and even Spike is mad at me because I "lied" to them, haha, all depends on whose version you're looking at I guess, and what it all comes down to is Buffy was plotting to have some boy over here while I was at work and Spike was plotting to blackmail her to do all his chores for him and yet they were CAUGHT, by ME, and now I'm the bad guy because I read about it in her diary, even the page where she used words I've only ever seen before in my email spam box.

I can't tell you how bad and sorry I feel about reading the diary... NOT! NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT!!!! Little Booger Brats are lucky I didn't kill them both and they know it!!! I am SO not sorry. "What kind of mom are you?" Spike writes in his little blog. Well son, that would be the kind who CARES ABOUT WHAT HAPPENS TO HER KIDS, and obviously that action was needed because Folks, if you had read what I read...

And now she has to be babysat by her grandmother every day after school. And is allowed no access to the computer. And I am NOT sorry.

Posted by Pischina at 6:09 AM | Comments (0)

WHY WHY WHY???

School starts tomorrow so of course my computer has gone bonkers again. Hopefully computer guy can fix it at work. It only works for like 5 minutes at a time. Megs, I haven't been able to finish returning your emails, but I'm not ignoring you! or anyone else! Hopefully I'll be back online this evening!!!! HELP!!
