My daughter is so cheap
The comments below reminded me of more.
After she'd gotten the shots to numb her thumb (the worst part) Buffy told me that for all her pain and suffering I should give her...
A Quarter.
The doctor said she must get everything she wants since all she needs now is a quarter. I said No, she doesn't get anything really but lots of love. The Doctor said sometimes that's all you need.
As for sewing up hot dogs... Her thumb looked a bit like a hot dog that had gone through the microwave too long and then split open, heh. I know, EWWWWW. The doctor kept joking that she was looking for the potato in the thumb, and we agreed that her thumb actually looked very much like a tater tot.
Also, Lora - I no longer have a password. :-(

Blood Blood and More Blood
Just got back from the hospital where Buffy got 10 stitches in her thumb. She wanted to make homemade frenchfries so she was cutting up a potato with a serrated steak knife, ended up slicing her thumb from top to bottom all the way through and even cut a chunk out of the middle. The very nice doctor lady couldn't even figure out how she'd done it. Buffy barely shed a tear.
BUCKETS of blood, you should have seen it.

Buy me! Buy me!
WOOOOO My Blog Stock is finally available for trading! Now you should all go to BlogShares and buy my stock (go to my right hand column, all the way at the bottom). At the moment it's at a very very low 79cents/share but you know my value is waaaaay more than that. You know it, Baybee. And go sign up if you aren't already, cuz I want to own a piece of all of you!
Except for Kim, whom I will own all of very very soon..
And for those of you who don't know what BlogShares is, it's FAKE money, fake stocks, etc. It's all a game. No one really makes money. Just didn't want anyone thinking I'm actually asking you to spend money, haha, it's just in fun.

Happy Sunday!!
We are going to church, then we'll do some chores, watch more movies (Rushmore and Orange County) and also go to the library so Buffy and friend can work on their reports. I think it will be a good day.

Hurry. UP.
Also, it's taking forever for our roast to cook. I put it in the crockpot at 3pm and I don't think it's even half cooked yet. The problem is that it smells DELICOUS. I can hardly wait!!!!!!
It's a big pork roast, and we covered it with pepper and garlic powder and orange peel. It's going to be DELICIOUS.

Good Netflix Weekend
Buffy and I started the morning with Diary of Ann Frank. Excellent movie, but we were both in tears by the end, I was pretty much ready to start sobbing, and it kind of put a downer on the day. Not a bad downer, really, just a very reflective time. Buffy got her Ann Frank photo book out and read through it again, and she pulled the diary out and read the last entry and the Afterword. She really wants to go see Ann Frank's home in Amsterdam one day, and I hope she gets to some day - I'm sure I won't be able to take her though. She also recognized early on that the actor playing Peter also plays Tony from West Side Story. I didn't even recognize Shelly Winters as Mrs. Van Daan.
Then I needed a comedy, so I put in House of Yes. Well if that isn't the most... can't think of a better phrase here... FUCKED UP family, EVER. Wow. That's all I can say. Wow. Anyway, I liked it, I don't know if other people are as crazy as I am so I'm not sure I can recommend it, but I thought it was shockingly funny.
And now on to either Biloxi Blues (for like the tenth time) or Rushmore.

Dumb de Dumb Dumb
And if you want to REALLY laugh at my stupidity, there's this thing that I was quite ashamed to realize last night.
I have no idea where Atlantic City is.
I watched The Apprentice last night, and Trump said he was putting them on a bus to Atlantic City, and I'm thinking, "Why would this billionaire send them on a 2 day bus ride down to.... oh my god... I didn't realize... Atlantic City is not the same thing as Atlanta, is it... I should be shot... Where is it? Maybe New Jersey? I don't know? Oh my god... WHERE is Atlantic City????"
But you see, no one from California goes to Atlantic City, whereverthatis. If we're going to gamble we go to Reno, or Lake Tahoe, or at the farthest we'll go to Vegas for a weekend. Never to... Atlantic City, which I am assuming is somewhere within a bus ride from New York, but I have no real clue. For some reason I alway thought Georgia, and I guess because it didn't think about it and my mind thought "Atlanta". Sigh....
Perhaps someone very nice and only a bit condenscending could tell me.
Also, I have NO idea how to pronounce Viceroy.

Other than that, I know Everything.

Megan's note: Every time you want to post an entry go into edit entries > filter options > category > is > Reasons for Love > and this entry will pop up > go into the entry cut and paste the above code into a new entry and you're all set. I do the same thing for Friday fives.
I want to participate in the Reasons for Love thingie, but the only thing stopping me is my complete ignorance in making that little Reasons for Love box connect to a link to the page. You know what I'm talking about, put the box on my page and when you click it it takes you to the RfL site. I don't know the code for that. Could someone help me please? I promise to save the instructions so I can do it myself next time, hehehehe...
(Also, I know I need to save the box to my own site, I know how to do that, I just need the rest of the code)

Meg's Friday Five
Because it's my blog and I can do what I want to,
Meg made up her own Friday Five, and I'm going to do that one too.
What's your favorite flower? The tulip. Pink especially, but I love them all. I wish I could grow red tulips in my garden year round.
What are you most looking forward to about spring? Nice weather. Californians whine so much about the rain, but it never really gets cold here. It does get hot though. So I love Spring and Fall, when it's just right, and sunny and breazy. No need for heaters or air conditioners.
What five things make you the happiest?
My Kids
Getting packages in the mail
Paying my bills
Reading books at the coffee shop with Scott
Seeing Scott's face every morning.
If you could change one thing about yourself what would it be? I'm pretty happy with myself. Right now the only thing I'd change is to make myself thin and in shape again, that's about it.
If you could make one wish for someone else what would it be? For both my kids, I just want them to grow up Happy. I would give up anything for that.

Daughter of China
I am currently reading Daughter of China, the true story of a woman my age who grew up in China, joined their army, and then was arrested and charged with crimes against her country because she fell in love with an American. She and the American both live in San Jose now, but this is a fascinating story. I can hardly put the book down. If you ever get a chance, you should read it, you will enjoy it, I promise.

Friday Five
Happy Friday!!!
No Friday Five today so I'm taking one from September 2001.
1. Laying on your back and facing the ceiling, which side of the bed do you sleep on? At home I sleep on the left because I like to be near the window. But I have a king size bed so I'm mostly in the middle. At Scott's house we take turns being next to the wall. But I guess I'm usually by the wall and it's on the left there too.
2. Do you have to have covers (blankets and/or sheets) at all costs, no matter the weather? No! I can easily sleep without them, though I like to have at least a sheet.
3. Sleep nekkid or no? Why? In the summer, yes. In the winter, only when Scott is here. I've loved sleeping nekkid since I was a kid, and I know Buffy is the same way. We just don't have jammas in this house, haha!
4. What's under your bed? Absolutely nothing, unless there's a cat waiting to grab my toes.
5. If you have pets, do you let them sleep with you? Why or why not? I let them unless Scott is here, because they love to sleep all over him. I don't mind if they sleep on me, and they like to cuddle next to me to keep warm. Why wouldn't you let them? That's what pets are for, to keep you warm and loved!

Banking
Itsy brought up online banking in a comment, but I don't think it would solve this particular problem. I can look at my account online, that's how I know the $39 is missing, but all it says is "Check# $39" for both months, it doesn't say a check number OR who it goes to. None of my other transactions are as mysterious. As for the PGE bill, I don't think I can pay it online or I would - I pay several other bills over the internet.

I put in my presentation for my review yesterday. I am crossing my fingers about a raise. I did really really well this year, and I did a *lot*. I even talked to my Supervisor about my work yesterday and she agreed that I had done some amazing things.
A raise would be the answer to everything right now. I hope I find out today!!!

What would a whole bottle of red wine spilled on the floor look like?
I noticed this morning that a wine bottle was nudged out of place in the 4-shelf wine rack I have. The bottom of the bottle had "fallen" out of the ledge and was sitting on the floor. Only like a 3 inch drop, so no big deal, and I didn't think anything else of it.
Just now I saw Phoebe Kitty tearing through the house, then jump up, grap the neck of a bottle on the top level, and try to swing herself to the side. Or whatever, I don't know what was going through her mind, but that's what it looked like. Then she fell down, jumped back up, grabbed the bottle neck and pulled.
Lucky for her the bottle was too heavy. But now I know what happened to the other bottle.
If she breaks one bottle I'll kill her. Kitty guts everywhere, I mean it.

Money Issues
Well my bank, let's call it.... oh... WELLS FARGO, has no idea why it's giving $39 of my money to someone that they have no idea who it is. See, this happened last month too, and since I tend to trust banks, I figured they knew what they were doing and it must be a valid charge, but now that it's happened a Second Time, I called and got a very non-helpful man on the phone and he not only didn't know who they gave my money to - twice - his only solution was to credit my account back the $39.
Which will be fine if, you know, it's not a valid charge, but what if this is a bill that I'm paying monthly and just can't remember??? I don't want to be late on a bill because of this, but he just credited it out without asking me and then told me he couldn't change it, he would just leave it there.
I fucking hate Wells Fargo.
And I am ashamed to say that my movie passion is such that I was more freaked out by the possibility that this was my NetFlix payment and that Netflix might *gasp* cut me off from my movies(!!!!!) than I was worried about anything else. But I checked, and my NetFlix payment does say "NetFlix Payment" so I know it wasn't that.
But THEN.
I paid all my bills last month, and was very proud that I did that AND had exactly $9 left in my bank, but I noticed that the PGE payment hadn't cashed yet, $250 sent 3/17. Today I come home to a message from PGE saying to call by 8pm tonight, which means of course that they don't have my check. So I called, and it's not there yet, and the power gets shut off 3/29 if they don't receive it - I can give them a payment over the phone, but if they receive the check later then they'll cash that check too - only there won't be any more money left in the account for both payments. So we (me and pge) decided I would wait until Sunday and see if they have cashed it, then call and make a payment over the phone if they still don't have it, then I guess make the stop payment.
GRRRRR... Why can't the mail just deliver my payments and why can't the bank just figure out who has my money. *stamp*

Resolutions
This year my new year resolutions were:
No bounced checks
No TV before 8pm
So far I have not bounced one check (which has to be a record) although I just discovered some sort of electronic check for $39 went through which is going to screw everything up. So I will borrow $40 from Scott until payday and call the bank today to find out what that check is for.
And since we canceled cable we have hardly watched TV at all and no one seems to care. We watch Survivor, The Apprentice and American Idol, but that's it. The rest of the time it's DVD after DVD. The kids don't even seem to miss it, they're spending time playing on their computers and actually READING BOOKS.
End progress report.

The Big Disappointment
We watched The Big Lebowski last night after hearing from so many people that it was awesome. It totally stunk. I laughed in parts, but it seemed to drag on forever and I just didn't think it was that funny. And a total waste of Buscemi's talent.
This week from NetFlix we will be watching:
Rushmore
Biloxi Blues (one of my favorites)
House of Yes (Parker Posey)
Orange County
Diary of Ann Frank (1959)

Today we saw "Secret Window" and I thought it was GREAT. Johnny Depp was fantastic too. Scott didn't love it so much, but also figured out the whole ending pretty early. I didn't figure it out until it was done, heh, so I enjoyed it more.
This morning I saw "The Opposite of Sex" which totally different than I expected - for some reason I thought it was a serious movie, not a funny one - but I really loved that one too.
Next we're going out to dinner with Scott's housemates. So far a really nice weekend.

Buffy is slept at her dad's house last night, but her alarm just went off anyway, and it was really loud. I sat here at the computer for a few minutes before getting up to turn it off. I walked into her room and saw Phoebe-Kitty standing next to the alarm pushing all the buttons with her paw!!! And then she looked up at me as if to say "Could you please make this thing be QUIET????"

I think it's funny sometimes that in real life I use quite a lot of bad words... When I ran the roofing division at my company those were the only words the roofers understood.
But I cannot usually bring myself to type them out when I write, or post on a board. Something about having it there in writing, for anyone to see, I guess, haha.
In front of the kids though, No, I never curse at them, rarely in front of them, and Buffy swears she's never heard me swear. Except that one time at a swim meet when I was playing a game with her and her friends, and I did something really stupid that cost me the game and I said "Oh SHIT!" and then "Uh Oh," and then "I didn't really say that Kids!!!"
The kids thought it was hilarious. I didn't, heh. But anyway, I don't know what the point of this post is. I was just on a board and wanted to type "That's fucking GREAT!" because that's what I would have said in real life, but I couldn't make myself do it. And I just thought it was funny.
On the other hand, sometimes you do see me swear here, and that's when you should know I'm *really* mad, heh.

"Thank God for Scott"
Okay, that stupid, stupid, so-simple-looking Birthday desk?
Took HOURS to make.
Okay, at least 2 hours anyway.
And then the drawer wouldn't work, the opening was too big and the drawer couldn't stay up there.
"Thank God for Scott," said Buffy, after he fixed what we couldn't do.
"What happened here? and why are these screws...? and what's with the drawer?" he wanted to know.
"Well, after I put these first three pieces together, I tried to turn them over, and then they fell apart, and then the screws tore out, and made a mess, and that's how I fixed it."
".....okay..." said Scott, "But how did it come apart again?"
"Um. It just fell apart."
He fixed it, that's all that matters.

Here is the new birthday
Here is the new birthday desk! But hers is in Maple, not Cherry.
"Some Assembly Required", that always cracks me up. It comes in a perfectly flat box, so I'm thinking it will "require" a bit more than "some". But Buffy is really happy and very excited.
Posted by Pischina at 9:59 PM
Aargh
We drove all the way to Target, put laundry soap in the cart, picked out some snacks for the laundromat, took ten minutes lifting the desk on to the cart, started getting cranky as we tried to maneuver the cart with the huge desk box on top...
And realized I left my checkbook at home. It was 6:35 at this point.
Drove all the way home (left the kids at Target with the desk), got the checkbook, drove all the way back, paid for the desk, drove to the laundromat, put all our clothes and the soap in each machine, started adding quarters...
One machine wouldn't accept any money.
Took out the wet towels with soap already on them from that washer, carried them a few washers down, reloaded. Sat at table and ate chips while watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune.
Drove to grocery store, bought yogurt and grapenuts and cranberry juice.
Came home. Drying the clothes now. Tired. A little hungry.
But we're still a happy family!!!
Posted by Pischina at 8:56 PM
Happy Monday!
I am home, I got paid, and now we're off to buy Buffy her birthday desk. I found a really really nice one at Target for only $50 - it was better than the more expensive ones! And she really loves it.
Then off to the laundromat...
Then to the grocery store for food - I'm getting lots of yogurt and cranberry juice and fruits and veggies. It's time to start the diet phase of Operation 20 Year Reunion, and not only do I love yogurt and cranberry juice but they make my tummy feel good too.
And we're off...

I was pretty sad because
I was pretty sad because I didn't like the church at all - just as I remembered it, it was really small, not a lot of people and most of them were 80+. There were hardly any kids, grades 4 - 8 were in the same Sunday School class. Buffy had a GREAT time but it's just not what I'm looking for. And my old pastor is just really hard to replace - I really didn't like this new one At All. Didn't like the sermon (I thought he used some very bad examples) and he talked like a speed demon - I even had trouble following the Lord's Prayer he went so fast.
Next time we're trying a church right down the block from us, just a Christian church, where Spike has been going to Youth Group with a friend. If I don't like that church we're out of luck unless I want to become Catholic or Mormon. I'd be more likely to become Mormon, haha, but it's not going to happen.
I wish I could take my old church and plunk it down the street from me.
Posted by Pischina at 1:34 PM
I have to say though
I have to say though that the church we're going to today is NOT the church that sends us fliers in the mail telling us to see "Passion of Christ". I would avoid a church that did that just on principle. I don't know why those fliers bug me so much, but they do. No, I haven't seen the movie, and I haven't decided if I will - though I'm starting to lean towards NOT. Probably on dvd, but not in theatres.
Also, this church's service/Sunday School is at 10:30am. WHOOOO!

Happy Sunday!
Spike spent the night at a friend's house and is going to church with him today, so Buffy and I are going to try a different church. Still a Methodist church, but it's down the street from us. We normally drive 20 miles away for the church they've grown up in, that will always be my favorite church where my "family" is. But sometimes closer is better. So today, we try something new.

Okay Bloggers, everyone wake up and put your thinking caps on.
It's that time again...
Saturday Movie Quotes!!!!
I'll start you off with an easy one:
"Well see, they wrote all this bank software, and, uh, to save space, they used two digits instead of four. So like 98 instead of 1998? Uh, so I go through these thousands of lines of code and, uh... it doesn't really matter. I uh, I don't like my job, and, uh, I don't think I'm gonna go anymore."

"And the more I thought about it... the more I realized that I should just blow my brains out and end it all. But then I thought, well, if I thought more about blowing my brains out... I start worrying about what that was going to do to my goddamn carpet. Okay, so, ah-he, that was a GOOD day, Doc."

Movie Quotes
"I don't want to cram in sex or guns or car chases or characters learning profound life lessons or growing or coming to like each other or overcome obstacles to succeed in the end. The book isn't like that, and life isn't like that, it just isn't. "

Gay Marriage
I really should be posting more about the whole Gay Marriage thing, but I can at least start right now. I just read this on Orkut.com and it's a very very good point:
"I was watching TV the other night and thought 'why can Atheists get married?' the religious right always states that homosexuals getting married is going to ruin society and lower the value of hetrosexual marriage but what about Atheists getting married? why doesn't the Religious right go after them?"

American Idol
I am missing the 9-9:30 part of AI, but I just wanted to say I just lost all my Katie love. Dude, she was horrid.
Love Love LOVE George Huff. He can go all the way as far as I'm concerned. And I liked Susie. Otherwise, no one made any impression on me.
But like I said, I'm missing this half hour, heh.
Okay, off to bed and Scott.

Silly Kids
My son "picked up" a girl from McDonald's today, with the help of his sister - Thanks, Buffy.
She comes from the very very rich neighborhood up the street. I'm thinking I should warn her from getting suckered into supporting his StarBucks habit.
Buffy said she's a "dumb blonde" who apparently didn't even know what street she lived on and had to ask her friend. Again, Thanks Buffy.

Woooo I am typing from a computer in the Aptos Library. Scott got a pin number just so I can use the computer while he looks for books.
Last night we saw Whalerider. I loved it. And the girl... SO beautiful... It was a really good movie.
Today we're just working around the house, and I get computer time, and tomorrow is Cinequest.. Obviously I have nothing worthwhile to say, heh.
So, I am Off!

And now I'm off to bed, then it's off to Aptos for the weekend - until Sunday when we'll be back in town for CineQuest.

Thursday Night TV!!!
Best. Apprentice. Ever.
Survivor: Who knew Sue was a quitter? That made me mad. On one hand I can kind of see her point, on the other hand, she was a strong woman who gave as much as she got. I'm not quite sure what happened there. I think if I had been on that beach I'd be standing behind her trying not to laugh behind my hand while she was raving about her sexual violation. Which may sound wierd coming from me after that last diary rant, but she's a grown woman who basically egged Richard on. I'm not saying she "asked for it", but being an emotional drama queen and then quitting was not the way to go about it.
The Apprentice: I was hoping she'd go down in a "flaming ball of failure and humiliation" (as a friend posted on a message board) but to have the flaming ball of humiliation AND crying? I never, EVER, would have thought she would cry. NEVER. But just as I predicted, she was oblivious to it all, blaming it all on their non-understanding of diversity, etc. blah blah blah. Shut up and get off my TV.
Next week: Bring it on, Caroline!!! I can't WAIT!!!

Ooh, RANT
Okay, I did enough writing to last me a few days, heh.
Posted by Pischina at 11:13 PM
Hallow...
I know I haven't been writing much, just have a lack of concentration lately, and lots of other things to do, and also I'm bummed about the recent spate of drug and gambling comments this blog has been getting. I can't remember who knew a way of preventing this, does anyone know?
Maybe you should email the info, heh, since I'll never find it amongst all the spam.
Otherwise though, we are still doing great.

Sometimes I'll rent old classic thrillers for the kids to watch because they LOVE to be scared. But usually they end up scoffing at the old movies, "That's Scary???" and Buffy even refused to believe that Norman Bates was the bad guy - "But he's such a nice man!"
But last night I rented "The Birds".
Those kids were Freaked Out. FREAKED out. Buffy didn't want me to leave the room, Spike was hiding his face in a blanket, hahahaha, they were SO scared, and they LOVED it!
When it was done they watched ALL the extras on the DVD, and especially loved the "Making Of" part. I was really happy. It's cool to share stuff with your kids and have them really appreciate it.
