Swimfan
We watched it just now... I thought it was good, so did the kids.
I mean, for what it was, a teen thriller, it did it's job and had Buffy and me scared, so ya know, it was good. At least, not as bad as I had heard, pretty much exactly what I expected.
:-)
Also Kim, I only rented it cuz you raved earlier, hee. So Thanks.

10 Things I Hate About You (Still. Yes, Netflix is PERFECT for us)
And we're going to clean up the whole house, buy Buffy a desk, and relax. And we're having teriaki chicken one day, turkey taco's the next.
Now I'm going to make more grilled cheese and maybe watch Swimfan.
You all are free to leave me Comments now.

Friday Five
No Friday-Five today so I'm borrowing the list Mocksie chose to do:
1. What is your current occupation? Is this what you chose to be doing at this point in your life? Why or why not? I am in Accounting, doing Collections and other more technical but boring sounding stuff. No, I would have bet a million dollars I wouldn't be in accounting when I grew up because I HATE MATH. And I'm not good at it. But my particular stuff doesn't involve a lot of math, so anyway, here I am. It's a job and it pays well.
2. If time/talent/money were no object, what would your dream occupation be? I'd probably be back working in the Plant Nursery. Or I'd be a Movie Reviewer. Or write a newspaper column.
3. What did/do your parents do for a living? Has this had any influence on your career choices? My dad retired from the Navy, went to work in electronics as an engineer, then had a heart attack and retired. My mom was a full-time mother until I started high school, then she went to college and has been a 1st grade teacher ever since. They had no influence on me whatsoever.
4. Have you ever had to choose between having a career and having a family? Yes, and I couldn't give my baby to someone else to raise. I stayed home and was poor, only returning to work after the divorce. I don't think I could ever have a baby if I had to give him to someone else during the day.
5. In your opinion, what is the easiest job in the world? What is the hardest? Why? I don't know about the easiest - probably those people who test video games and such. But the hardest is probably being a police officer. Yeah, there are bad ones, but overall they're good people who put up with a BUNCH of CRAP from really stupid people, while putting their lives on the line every day to protect us.

49ers Suck Anyway
Jeff Garcia leaving the 49ers...
hahahaha.....
I hate them so much. I like Jeff okay, but my mother in law loved telling EVERYONE WHO WOULD LISTEN that she knew him and his parents, and I think this is hilarious. She is probably fuming mad right now.
You have to know my mother in law, but trust me, this is great, hee.

Marci
This is my best friend forever Marci now. We were inseperable from age 9 to 11, and then she moved. We were the "popular" kids back then, and most kids couldn't tell us apart. I always had long long hair, and I cut mine just like hers, in a little pageboy with bangs.
She had the best, nicest family EVER. And it looks like she has one of her own now.
We've only exchanged short emails since last night, "Is this YOU?" "YES!!!" but we'll get in touch tonight or this weekend. It just makes my heart so warm seeing her again, and seeing her so Happy!
I LOVE the internet.

In general
I lied, I won't write today. I'm very comfy sitting here eating my grilled cheese sandwiches and looking at my new cute shoes and I don't feel like typing.
Plus, Survivor starts in 1/2 hour and then THE APPRENTICE, my very favoritest show in the whole world right now.
Heh, did ya'll see Katrina lose all her marbles last week? Loved it.
P.S. Itsy, I love you, and all the other whiners too. All us whiners have to stick together, ya know.

And Good Night.
One last thing... It can stop raining now.
I was thinking this morning as Scott drove us to work and it was pouring cats and dogs for like, the third day this winter (it rains, just not heavily), and listening to the radio about how HORRIBLE the weather is, and I just thought about how we are such WHINERS in California. One horrid raining day and we're all BooHoo, when Montana is probably up to their hips in snow.
Or maybe not, I don't know Montana weather, haha, but whiner or not, it was horribly wet today.
And windy. Horrid wind.
I hate the wind more than anything, but I'll write about that another time.
Oh yeah, Scott and I got into a Really Really For Real Argument on Saturday - first time ever, about, of all things, Janet Jackson's boob.
And so I decided to bring up more of my opinion last night at dinner, which pretty much proved my point and gave me a win for the argument, and I don't think Scott took it well. Heh.
He'll live.
:-)

Oh, and...
Also, I haven't been on the computer at all the last couple days, that's how I deal with stress sometimes, heh, but anyway if anything horrible or really spectacular has happened recently, I just have not read about it yet. I will catch up soon, probably tomorrow.
Hurray for new shoes! I get another pair tomorrow after work!
And I have to go to the store to stock up on grilled cheese sandwich stuffs. I am very hungry for one right now.

Whiny Babies
I am here, Sillies!!! It's just been a hard week worrying about driving the convertible to work and back the last few days, and you didn't want to hear about all that whining, didya?
But...
I got my Jeep back today! My boss paid half ($863) and I paid half and I drove it home and the convertible is back resting in the driveway, and now we can go to the laundromat without being buried to our eyeballs in dirty clothes. WOOOO for extra storage room! And no more car worries!
Also, I have pictures from Buffy's birthday to post, just haven't gotten around to it.
I need to go back to the gym, quickly.

Last night I watched Thirteen,
Last night I watched Thirteen, and that's one really really good movie.
This morning I watched 10 Things I Hate About You, for like the tenth time, and I *still* love this simple little teen movie. I still cry in like four places and I'm still totally in love with Julia Stiles AND Heath Ledger. This is just one of those really great movies you can see over and over again.
I need to buy it.

Here comes the Brides... and the Grooms...
Look at all these happy pictures! It makes ME so happy seeing this. It may not last but it's a Step. And even if this huge step gets taken away by President Bush, I have no doubt it will only be a COUPLE years, at most, before it's legal. I felt so helpless not being able to do anything to further this cause, but finally the ball is rolling.
There was a comedian on the radio yesterday, I (unfortunately) didn't catch his name, but he was commenting on gay marriages too. Something like "After 9-11, does anyone even CARE? I mean, isn't banning gay marriage right under 'Are we eating too much garlic as a people' on a list of important topics in our lives? And the president wants to make a CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT?" He went on and on and it really was funny in one of those if-only-it-weren't-so-serious kinds of ways.
Anyway, I am all sorts of Happy for the people in those pictures.

Patient...
My car is still making it to work and back.
I get the Jeep back Wednesday, with my brand sparkling new transmission! I can't wait, and I'm so excited.
Total with towing and tax: $1766, but only half for me.
I have to drive the car to the grocery store, the post office, and the laundromat this weekend, but otherwise it will sit and rest. Then just 2-1/2 days more.
I'll write about the birthday tomorrow.

Which one?
It looks as if the convertible *may* have blown valves. But the "mobile mechanic" was quite good at blowing me off this morning so I canceled him. The car did get me to work and ran fine, but our crew guys checked it and said the oil was GONE and there was also oil around the tailpipe. They put more oil in, but it doesn't look good for the diagnosis.
Now my boss feels guilty for selling me the Jeep and has offered to split the cost of a new transmission. The Jeep already has a new engine in it, so with the new transmission it should be a great vehicle again. If we go to the company's transmission place he'll give us a deal, meaning each of us would only have to pay $800.
So, fix the convertible which will probably break again with something else soon?
Or sink $800 into the Jeep for a $2,200 transmission, almost guaranteeing me a good working car at least until it's paid off?
We're paying the $800. And I am very very happy. I just hope the car gets me to work and back for a few days. I won't get to go to Aptos this weekend, but Scott said we'll go to dinner Friday and he'll stay over until his school starts Saturday morning.

Happy Birthday Buffy! And Happy Birthday Itsy too!
Buffy is playing video games while I wait for the transmission shop to open up so I can call them. Scott checked the fluid in the Jeep, it's full, so the Jeep does need a new transmission. Hopefully the convertible's transmission just needs a little fixing. Yes, I have my tax check but I was counting on paying back my mom and some bills with it. But things happen I guess.
It has been pouring rain here. But I heard it may clear this afternoon. Then we will walk down to the little shopping center, have lunch, get a cake mix from Longs, maybe go to ColdStone Creamery. Hope it doesn't rain on the walk home, hah.
Okay, we will figure something out. Buffy has been chirpily drawing pictures for her birthday, and she's having a great day - at only 7:30am. We will figure something out.

Not a good birthday
Wednesday is Buffy's birthday, (and Itsy's too!) but my car just broke down and instead of spending the day going to movies and shopping, we will be sitting at home playing video games. I am incredibly sad and upset and mad that I never have a car that works.

My one and only
I've been working hard on my game and it's been going really well, especially with the help of the lovely Stella.
But some things I don't get, like, why was Lara sleeping on the floor of an abandoned subway car? I mean, sleeping in it on the seats is one thing, but the floor???
I know, I put way too much thought into the game. Even sadder is how I stare out the window at work, going through my head what she needs to do next, where I can go back to get more bullets, how I can kill the guards with less bullets, how to get back to Pierre the bartender...

Valentines
Oh, for those of you keeping track, Scott brought me a dozen roses yesterday, and wrote me a much card AND a note, saying I'm his "best friend", he loves me "deeply", hopes we have "many happy years together" and that I'm his "Goddess of Light".
Altogether, Awwwwwwwww.....
And then I went to Spike's blog and found (other than that the boy needs remedial spelling ASAP) this:
"Well my mom just came back from having lunch with her boyfriend , Scott (Scott is a really nice guy and he teaches kung-foo or tia-chi or something like those...He has his own school that he teaches one of those karate things in and my mom loves him a lot ,and is always rambling about him with her co-worker Corina who keeps yelling at Scott for not proposing to her yet..LOL...But he is a really kool guy and he's just right for my mom ) ya .. "
Once again, Awwwwwww....
Okay, Ms.Croft, I'm off to see you now...

Angel of Darkness
Okay, in my game Lara finally found a gun but no ammo yet, and she's been arrested once and died of poison gas another time. I obviously need to practice more.
You know what I'll be doing today!
Also, in this game she's able to tip toe up behind the bad guys, grab them around the neck, kick them in the ribs, then punch them until they're out.
Lara's cool.

PlayStation 2? Anyone?
So I got it, and my son was absolutely GA-GA over it, and Buffy and I were waiting for him to put it together so we could play...
And then "the hottest girl in school" called him, and he's been shut in his room with the phone ever since.
Buffy and I tried to hook it up, it no workee.
Buffy finally went to bed, Spike is still in his room with the phone, and I am going to be a grown-up and figure out why plugging in two plugs does not a video game make.

I just checked the bank account and the second tax refund is now there! That means with our eBay money and the refund, we get a PlayStation 2 tonight!
Which I realize now is a really good idea because the kids have the week off and this will buy me some time before they kill each other. Or worse, call me at work 27 times a day.

Until this morning.

Size 7 here I come (again)
Today Scott and I are going back to Play It Again Sports and buying an elliptical machine for me!!!! It costs $499.00, which means it's probably about a $1000 machine, it has the arm poles (which I don't like anyway, heh) and a digital readout of everything, a heart rate monitor, and about 15 different programs. It comes brand new in a box even!
He and I are going in together on it (he finally talked me into letting him pay) with both our tax refunds. I didn't want him to buy it for me but he convinced me to think about it as "an investment" for him. Meaning that one day soon he'll have a strong buff girlfriend.
"What's really sad," he told me yesterday, "is that if I just say I want to buy it for you you won't let me and get all offended. But if I say 'Hey, you need it!' then you agree with me. But if that's what it takes to make your little brain accept it, I'll do it!" he said laughing.
It was pretty funny. I don't think Scott cares if I'm fat or thin, but he knows I'm unhappy and want that machine. But I hate accepting anything from him, heh, especially now that we're about on our feet again and won't need to borrow money from him anymore. But he convinced me finally that I can't tell him how to spend his money.
Anyway, I get it on the way home today.
Then I go home, take the clothes to the laundromat (new washing machine comes with next week's tax refund), take all the eBay stuff to the post office, and go home to put my machine together. Hurrayyyyy!!!!!!
Oh yeah, and we made $176 on our eBay stuff in two weeks! That means next week we get our PlayStation 2 also!!!

Damn the networks for putting Survivor and The Apprentice up against each other!
I watched the first half of Survivor - I love Rudy but he wasn't going to help win challenges, who didn't see that coming?
Switched to The Apprentice - HATE Heidi. Still love Nick... and Bill... And Troy... and Kristi too and Amy... What was up with Jessie????? BackStabber!!!
Switched back to watch Rudy's manacing GoodBye speech, heh, Go Rudy...
Switched back to Hate Heidi some more.
I wish the old TV had a remote control, haha. My butt has gotten lazy!

Yayyyy for Antennas
I am very very happy about our antenna. Like Monica, most places I've lived in San Jose worked like kryptonite on TVs, if you didn't have cable you couldn't get any channels. At our last house we had free cable, so this was the first time in 10 years I've had to pay for it. (Ah, memories... there is nothing worse than having your cable shut off while your 3 year old is watching Muppet Babies)
Anyway, Kim told me to get an antenna and since she is my official advisor for the year 2004 I got one and it works. Not on the good TV, like I said, but it does work on the old one and that's all that matters.
I am SO excited that we get to see Survivor and The Apprentice tonight!!!
Also, I got one of my tax refunds in direct deposited right into my account today. $1169 for me. I am paying Comcast what I owe them and then I'm telling them to fuck off.

Bye-Bye Comcast
The antenna is hooked up to a very old TV in the front room now. It wouldn't work on our nice TV because it's set to "Cable" and (long story short) I can't change that. Anyway, we now get channels for American Idol, The Apprentice and Survivor. Also, the news. Pretty much the only shows I watch except Trading Spaces and some MTV shows.
We can now cut out our $40/month cable bill. Holy Moly and Hallelujah! We are FREE! I made a deal with the kids we would do without for one year, until our loan is paid off. They are happily playing PlayStation, we are buying a PlayStation 2 with our eBay money ($120 so far!) and we still have most of our Reality Shows.
Comcast can go fuck themselves, and good riddance to their telemarketers. I am SO TIRED of them calling me all weekend long.
And now, I am off to watch American Idol.

Mo Money Mo Money
Dude, I love eBay. Only on eBay can you sell a used old Neverending Story for over $11 (at the moment) that you can buy NEW at Amazon for $7.99.
My copy of The Silmarillion is obviously old and ratty, you can buy a brand new one for $7.99 but mine is already up to $6.50.
Speaking of loving it, I sold the crazy elf-loving lady the mushroom lamp for $12.50. I believe the crackhead paid $5 for it. By the way, the crazy elf-loving lady was very very nice. A little elf-crazy, but very nice.
We have already sold $87. We are digging the whole house up looking for stuff to sell!

Cable Guy can kiss my ass
Cable Guy came to turn off the cable today, causing Buffy to call me (from home alone) TWICE to tell me what he was saying. He wanted a credit card payment or he was going to turn it off, I told her tell him I'd pay it on Friday, she called back and said it had to be paid now or he'd turn it off, I told her tell him to turn it off then, I'll have money on Friday, she called me back AGAIN and said he needed a credit card payment or he was turning it off.
Now. What is a grown cable guy doing on my porch arguing with a 11 year old girl about a credit card? The battery in our cordless phone was dead so she couldn't bring him the phone to talk to me and at least she wasn't letting him into the house (Buffy needs to learn a lesson quickly about opening the door for strangers) but OBVIOUSLY she doesn't have a credit card and OBVIOUSLY her mother wasn't home.
So turn off the damn cable already and leave the porch. I can live for a week without TV, really I can, and after we pay everything with the tax money we won't ever be late again, but the more I write about this the more pissed off I am that he was harrassing my DAUGHTER. A KID.
I may have to call Comcast tomorrow and complain.
Meanwhile, we have a DVD player and a Playstation. And a computer and plenty-O-books. We are entertained. If it wasn't for The Apprentice I may not even get the cable turned back on.

Hands Free Adapter Again
The guy selling the adapter has been answering customer questions on the auction site, and they are hilarious. A friend of mine from eBay wrote in with this question:
Question for seller -- Item #3075038386 I'm interested in purchasing one of your Hands Free Adapters, however I never bid on an item without knowing the shipping. Also, do you use delivery confirmation and/or insurance? Thanks much,
My Reply: We ship 1-5 of these devices for a mere .50¢ to the cont. US. We also ship to Canada for a charge of $200. To insure your "Hands Free Adapter" arrives with it's elasticity in tack we use flimsy cheap plain white envelopes and write PLEASE BEND on them so there is no need for insurance. However, we do offer Delivery confirmation. Email us when you receive your item. We will then confirm we sent it.
You should go look at the updated auction with the questions/answers listed at the bottom. You gotta love a guy with a sense of humor!
P.S. My friend actually bid on it (as a joke) and the Seller canceled the bid stating "Buyer has too many good feedback." So at least the guy is just having a good time, and not at anyone's expense.

My mushroom lamp is going for $10 right now, I think the lady who's winning at the moment is a bit elf crazy. If you look at the auctions she's won she has bought hundreds of dollars of elf stuff THIS MONTH. She refuses to be outbid!
I love crazy have-to-win elf-loving ladies!
(I would love two of them even better, they could bid crazy elf-bids on my mushroom lamp and make me lots of money, HAH!)
