I saw that Cat

I saw that Cat In the Hat trailer the other day and felt like I'd gotten a needle injected sugar high.
But seeing that goldfish reminded me of a story our Office Manager had just told me.

She has a 5 year old son and had recently bought a goldfish for her fish tank.
She had noticed it was often wet around the tank but she couldn't find a leak anywhere and just didn't really think about it that hard.

Until a neighbor kid came to play with her son one day.
Neighbor Kid came back to ask the mom "Is Kyle allowed to play with the goldfish?"
No....
"Well he is."

She went to Kyle's room and he had the goldfish out ON THE DESK,
playing with it.

The fish died the next day.

Can you imagine that poor fish's last month of life?
Swim-swim-swim-swim...
AAAAGH The Giant Hand is coming back! NOOOOOO!!!!
GASP! *help* GAAAASP *Help!* gaaaaaAAAAASP*

So today I was driving home in a good mood cuz everything had gone my way AND I was appreciated at work today
But some crappy song was playing on the radio so I shut it off and called RaevynLunatic.
A man answered.
Me: Thinking - "Uh oh, What's her NAME? Her real name???"
Me: Saying - "Hi... Is..... Rae home?"
Man: "HELLOO???"
I asked for Rae again and he gave her the phone (Luckily that's her real name, hah!)
"Hi, it's Pischina!"
What followed was a scream the likes you hear when Bob Barker tells you to "Come on DOWWWN!"
Anyway, we had a very nice conversation and the drive home flew by.
Rae fed her family hot dogs for dinner.
I fed mine cereal. Hey, that's what they wanted!
Anyway, don't believe what they say,
I do NOT giggle.
And Rae was very very nice and friendly, she seemed like a very fun person!

We had a good

We had a good day.
Got up late, nixed church and went off to Aptos.
First stop, the health food store where Buffy got to buy her Koala Krispies,
Then the coffee shop.
While drinking our juice and coffee we looked through one of those Homes magazines (where they show homes for sale) and Spike and Buffy went nuts shopping for a house in Aptos for us to buy.
At one point Buffy says "No not that one, it's not quite in our budget."
"Um... what exactly IS our budget?" I asked.
"I would say... under $400,000."
Yeah, I would say WAAAAAAAY under $400,000.
Then we went to Aptos High School and walked around the huge graffitti-free campus.
Finally, Scott's house. We took him back off to the coffee shop where we had ham&cheese croissants (Buffy), raspberrie smoothie (Spike), potatoe & pesto quiche (me) and a breakfast burrito (Scott).
And off to the pumpkin patch.
We each picked one out,
Buffy got a teeny tiny pumpkin,
I got a fat squashed down reddish orange pumpkin,
Scott got a normal round pumpkin
And Spike got a long tall pumpkin.
On the way back home Scott wanted to look at the high school himself
(it's only 1/2 mile from his house)
And he thougt it was lovely (it is).
Went back to Scott's house and carved them together with wood carving tools, haha.
Spike carved the Scream ghost,
Buffy carved a toothy monster
Scott carved a very stylistic... himself, heh,
And I carved a pretty lady pumpkin complete with eyelashes.
I'll take a picture of our three tomorrow in the light
But Scott still has his at home.
On the way home we checked out Aptos Junior High and then hit the road.
Anyway, School and Work tomorrow.
Rats.

You are Form 0, Phoenix: The Eternal.

"And The Phoenix's cycle had reached
zenith, so he consumed himself in fire. He
emerged from his own ashes, to be forever
immortal."

Some examples of the Phoenix Form are Quetzalcoatl
(Aztec), Shiva (Indian), and Ra-Atum
(Egyptian).
The Phoenix is associated with the concept of life,
the number 0, and the element of fire.
His sign is the eclipsed sun.

As a member of Form 0, you are a determined
individual. You tend to keep your sense of
optomism, even through tough times and have a
positive outlook on most situations. You have
a way of looking at going through life as a
journey that you can constantly learn from.
Phoenixes are the best friends to have because
they cheer people up easily.

I went to work

I went to work today and everybody loved my purple hair.
Of course, most of them are nasty lieing bitches, heh, but I'll pretend for now that they really do love my hair.
And I realized that it may not be Clairol's fault - I was blaming them because there is NO color even close to purple on the box.
But the dye is actually for brown hair, and while my hair is mostly brown, it also streaks very very blonde in the summer.
And that's where it's purple, right where those streaks were.
So if you have blonde or very light brown hair,
Stay away from "Rosewood" Natural Instincts.
Unless, of course, you WANT purple streaked hair.
Buffy, now that she's stopped laughing, wants her own hair dyed that color.
Now, do I do it before she takes school pictures or after?
Yeah, I am that kind of Mom.
We'll probaby do it this weekend.

I bought some Oxy-Clean

I bought some Oxy-Clean today for the first time.
I should have gotten some long ago, I am just too messy to live without some special cleaner.
A little over a year ago most of my white shirts/blouses (and most of them ARE white) were turned dark pink at the laundromat.
Then the fire burned up the laundry room while I was washing, yes, my white shirts and blouses.
Then today, wearing one of my only 2 white shirts I have left,
I spilled my Togo's BBQ Beef sandwich all over my shirt and pants
(It was SO worth it, I didn't even care, what's a little mess at work when your belly's full of BBQ Beef?)
And then at dinner I spilled more spaghetti noodles all over myself - but I'm only wearing my work out clothes, so that's okay.
I'm just saying, Me and Oxy-Clean should have met up a long time ago.

AND
A blinking lighted star pinned RIGHT ON HER NIPPLE.

So yeah, that's Princess Missy.

Also, one step closer

Also, one step closer to buying Wedding Announcements:

We were driving around Open Studios and Scott was wishing that he too could quit his day job and just get paid for making beautiful furniture.
"Maybe one day I'll have a famous writer for a wife and she'll support me so I could work in my shop," he said wistfully.
"Well maybe one day you will," I said.
(WAIT a minute, I thought, Did he say WIFE? WIFE? He said WIFE not Girlfriend, right? He said the Code Word, WIFE)
"Of course," I added, "First you have to decide you want to get married again."
He looked at me and I gave him my innocent look back.
He started laughing nervously.
I started laughing with an innocent smirk on my face.
He saw the smirk and started laughing harder.
I laughed harder too, still with an "I caught you" grin.
Finally I said "Okay, you can stop laughing now."
And he started joking about how when I was a famous writer then I wouldn't WANT to marry him, but I'd probably still send him to his shop to make me a jewelry box, and he better use the GOOD wood, and not the wood from the scrap heap...
*****
It was a step closer. And it was funny.

This weekend was mostly

This weekend was mostly spent (after I dyed my hair purple and we saw Kill Bill) going to Open Studios. This is where you look at a huge map of the Santa Cruz area where hundreds of artists live and the artists open their homes to you so you can come see their work.
Literally hundreds, so since Scott has a woodshop and is very into that sort of thing, we picked out all the wood and furniture artists. All the artists were really nice, and some were very interesting. Some even served wine and cheese and crackers, apples fresh from the farm next door, m&m's, fresh garden tomatoes, etc.
We saw everything from a man who was charging $1200 for a little jewelry box to a lady who pounded layers of copper onto garage sale furniture, to a guy who had a barn filled with industrial size woodworking tools yet all he made was $200 FISHING NETS ("Well I haven't sold any yet, quit my day job last year and pretty much used up my life savings.")
Then we saw Matthew Werner's furniture which was very beautiful, waaaaaaaaaaay more beautiful than the pictures can show, yet again, $175 for a napkin holder, and his music stands, though absolutely gorgeous, were $1200 and up.
But our highlight of the weekend was meeting Mr. Vern Bowie who made the most gorgeous furniture I've ever seen. I can't find a better link to him which is really too bad cuz this guy was amazing. And just such a great guy! His wife is a painter too (scroll down in that link for a painting she did of him, and her photo). He's 73 and looks about 50. African American with the most delicious chocolate colored skin, his wife and he ran their own business PLUS 3 restaurants during their life, then made enough to retire and they make enough doing what they love to live a very nice life. Beautiful house, beautiful furniture and artwork too of course.
We left that house just in love with the couple, I swear Scott wants to invite them to dinner and make them our friends.
I wouldn't mind a bit either.

Me: We're having ground turkey and corn.
Lanie: Well, I think I'll take my dinner
****
It went something like that, haha. But actually I ended up with a really great dinner.
I mixed the turkey all up like a meat loaf, with garlic teryaki sauce, eggs, herb & garlic seasonings, bread crumbs and wheat germ.
Then I filled the muffin pan with them!!!
With barbecue sauce on top!
I made little muffin meat loafs and they were SOOOOOO good!
We called them "Meat Muffins", hee hee heeeeee
Then we had rice, and corn bread, and a corn & black bean mixture.
And Scott brought salad and of course we had a little tiny bit of wine too.
:-)
I had such a good leftover lunch today.

Now that I can

Now that I can think AND type,
At the same time even...
I did speak with Lanie yesterday
And like I said, she sounds soooooooooooooooo sweet.
My gosh, certainly nothing like the cranky* lady that posts on her blog sometimes.
It was almost too sweet sounding to believe it was her.
She thinks she has no accent - HAH!
She sounds like a little Southern Belle (Sorry Lanie, tis true)
Like the most sweetest, dainty, proper Southern Belle who drinks Mint Juleps on the porch and often swoons.
I'm not kidding.
*****
P.S. Being cranky is not a bad thing!

I got bored today

I got bored today on the way home and called every internet person that I have a phone number for and
NOT ONE PERSON WAS HOME.
Anyone want me to call them on a future bored day, email me your number.
I'm basically antisocial and hate talking on the phone,
But sometimes I just get in the mood.
So ya know, I won't call you right NOW,
But I may call you in the FUTURE.

I still have postcards sitting on my desk, all addressed but *still* waiting for stamps,
That should give you an idea when I'll call you, heh.

K-Lo just (jokingly) cursed my house to burn down again, and after I threatened to move the whole family in with her if it did...
Now we're smelling smoke.
I've gone through the whole house, couldn't find anything and thought maybe it was a neighbor's house...
But no, it seems to be coming from the COMPUTER.
So I'll be signing out now.
Hopefully it will cool down by morning, heh.

Heh.

Well obviously I get a lot more done at home when the kids are NOT grounded.
Since the computer is MINE ALL MINE I have not budged from this chair all weekend except to go to church.
And I didn't even want to do that.
It's much easier to get up and clean the kitchen or do laundry when someone is next to me begging to play the Sims.
Speaking of which, I need to clean the kitchen and do laundry.
But...
Maybe I'll play Sims for awhile.

Buffy finally dragged me

Buffy finally dragged me out the door to go running.
We did one .8 mile loop,
And added another block to it,
So I'm not sure how far, but it was close to 1.5 miles total.
Took us about 15 minutes and we had a great time,
Buffy ran right out to the back yard and started jumping rope.
I, of course, ran straight to the computer and sat down, haha.
So today that makes 20 minutes gym, 15 minutes running.
A week from Monday is my next weigh and measure day,

My chores are:

Pull up summer flowers
Sweep kitchen and dining room
Clean back patio
Dig up 1/2 the vegetable garden.
You guys haven't commented on anything today and NO ONE (???) knows who Kilgore Trout is,
So off I go to do my stuff.

Of course, he hasn't exactly said what it is he's going to do, but I'm sure someone will write a script real soon and then he'll figure it out.

While I'm ranting, might

While I'm ranting, might I add that I'm not afraid to admit I laughed when I heard about the tiger attacking Roy.
Then I was horrified,
And then again I chuckled and thought "About time".
I don't value animals over people, but I don't think wild animals such as lions and tigers have any place in these circus acts.
No, it doesn't save their lives, there are plenty of sanctuaries they can be released to.
I think it's horrible that Roy got hurt...
But it was only a matter of time and a small part of my heart thinks he deserves it.
It makes me feel bad that I think that, but that doesn't change what I think.

Posted by Pischina at 9:50 PM

For those who don't

For those who don't want to read my political rant, but would rather read a very funny account of a reporter going undercover into Arnold's campaign headquarters, read this article from the Santa Cruz Metro.
It's really very funny.

Posted by Pischina at 8:26 PM

Well, I was asked,

Well, I was asked, so here's my version, "in a nutshell", why we are having a recall election:
Please excuse errors like name spellings.
First, some guy by the name of Clark(?) I think, decided Governor Gray Davis was responsible for a lot of the bad things happening in California, so he started the recall. It wasn't going anywhere though, so a Republican named Darrell Issa stepped in and donated $20Million of his own cash to get the recall rolling. He also decided he might like to run for governor himself. If not for him, it wouldn't have happened. So the recall was on, Issa was running and the frontrunner, and then Schwartzenblatz joined the race, the press went mad, Issa cried and dropped out, California is now a laughing stock.
That's the nutshell version.
There are a lot of really sad issues here.
Gray Davis isn't even to blame for most of the things wrong here, he inherited them from previous governors. The energy crisis is the result of stupid Californian voters who thought deregulation would bring them better prices - WHICH IT NEVER HAS FOR ANY INDUSTRY YET. Schools have suffered since Prop 13 and will continue to do so. Nothing will change unless taxes are raised. The main reason we're suffering here is the main reason all of America is suffering - we're going through a recession brought on by 9/11. It may *seem* worse for us living in California because we were quite a wealthy state due to the dot com industry previous to 9/11. That industry crashed and now we're left picking up the pieces. Not Gray Davis' fault - just the way life rolled the dice.
I will say Governor Davis probably could have reacted a bit sooner to some of these crises, or been more vocal about trying to help out instead of seeming to hide his head in the sand.
But there is no way anyone else elected will be able to fix the problems we have in this short of a time. And the very possibility that we will be voting this muscle-bound not-very-good ACTOR to be governor just infuriates me.
And really, it's now the fault of the press. Since the moment he declared his candidacy he's been on the front page. Why? Because he's a name that draws attention and SELLS PAPERS. Then his name is more well known, and it's a vicious circle of more papers sold = more publicity for Ahnold = more papers sold.
What really makes me mad is how quickly the election is being held. There has been NO TIME to sort out potential candidates, no time to weed out the bad from the good. Tomorrow we will very likely elect Arnold as our Governor.
That's my personal view as a Liberal Santa Cruz Hippie Democrat. Republicans I'm sure have their own opinion. My biggest gripe is with the entire voting public, NATIONALLY. No one thinks for themselves, no one reads up on their own, no one tries to educate themselves, everyone WATCHES TV AND VOTES WHAT THE TV SAYS TO. People need to START USING THEIR HEADS and then actually GO VOTE.
*****
Sorry, but I was asked.
And really, it does make SO MUCH sense to spend so many MILLIONS OF DOLLARS on this recall when California has SO MUCH extra money in the bank.
Maria Shriver, you should be ashamed of yourself.

Posted by Pischina at 8:23 PM

I finally got my

I'm doing the Friday Five right now
Even though it's late
Because it's my blog and I can if I want to.

1. What vehicle do you drive?
A 1990 Chrysler LeBaron Convertible and a 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee LTD.
Both are white.
2. How long have you had it?
Convertible since New Years Day
The Jeep for a couple weeks.
3. What is the coolest feature on your vehicle?
The Chrysler: It's a Convertible!!!!
The Jeep: a windshield wiper for the back window
4. What is the most annoying thing about your vehicle?
The Chrysler: Sometimes it dies while driving it.
The Jeep: Sometimes it beeps and flashes that I have low windshield wiper fluid - a) the fluid is FULL, b) is it that important that it has to BEEP at me and scare me to death???
5. If money were no object, what vehicle would you be driving right now?
A convertible Jaguar, or a brand new convertible VW bug.

However all the new kitchen stuff makes up for it.
Laurie's room, well, the 70's look is still the 70's look,
And though I liked the room overall
(WHO THE HECK NEEDS $1000 worth of DVDs???)
The curtains look dated and that GAWDAWFUL mirror has to go,
I don't care if it was from the 1800's.
